Following Sir Keir Starmer\u2019s resignation on Monday morning, Andy Burnham, who has only just returned as a Member of Parliament following his victory in last Thursday\u2019s Makerfield by-election, now has 1\/50 odds to become the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n
There have only been two previous incumbents of number 10 Downing Street from Merseyside \u2013 both in the 19th century \u2013 Edward Smith-Stanley, the 14th Earl of Derby, an aristocrat from Knowsley<\/a> Hall who was the longest serving leader of the Conservative Party<\/a>, and William Ewart Gladstone, a giant of the Liberal Party, who served a record four non-consecutive terms between 1868 and 1894.<\/p>\n Each first took office before the Blues were even formed as St Domingo\u2019s in 1878, but back in 2015, Aintree-born Burnham vowed he would still go to every Everton<\/a> home game if he ever became PM. Asked if he would give up his Blues season ticket, the Independent<\/a> cited him as telling Fubar Radio: \u201cNo, never. No, never.<\/p>\n \u201cI will always go and watch Everton. Always.<\/p>\n \u201cAll my life. It will never change.\u201d<\/p>\n
