Joe Manganiello revealed he suffered from life-threatening autoimmune-related illnesses that resulted in him having an amputation.<\/p>\n
In the synopsis of the \u201cSpider-Man\u201d actor\u2019s forthcoming memoir, \u201cBloodlines,\u201d<\/a> he said he dealt with \u201ca cascade of autoimmune-related illnesses\u201d that attacked his thyroid, digestive system, skin, lungs and eyes.<\/p>\n During the seven-year battle, Manganiello, 49, dealt with \u201cchronic pain, a life-saving organ amputation, existential crisis and a prolonged fight for survival that left doctors with few answers and no clear explanation.\u201d<\/p>\n When doctors were unable to explain what was happening to the \u201cMagic Mike\u201d star, he turned to an unorthodox form of treatment. <\/p>\n Joe Manganiello (seen above with his dog) suffered from life-threatening autoimmune-related illnesses. Simon & Schuster<\/p>\n Manganiello used \u201cshamans, pagan rituals, ancient myths, long-lost family records and the rebirth of his own spirituality\u201d to try to aid his illness. <\/p>\n The actor also did a deep dive into his own family genealogy and discovered ancestors who survived the Armenian genocide and others who lived with chronic illness.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was the most brutally difficult time of my life, one I wouldn\u2019t wish on my worst enemy, but also my greatest adventure,\u201d Manganiello told People<\/a> in a statement.<\/p>\n Manganiello (seen above with his dog) dealt with the health issues for seven years.
