By all accounts, James Gunn and the DCU<\/a> are here to stay. It’s a fact some will read as an opinion to fuel some good ole fashioned keyboard pecking, only it isn’t, and even the CEO of Paramount Skydance is prepared to put rumors of a DCU demise to bed<\/a>; and, of course, here comes another huge positive toward Gunn’s momentum.<\/p>\n

The follow-up to David Corenswet’s summer blockbuster Superman, a film that pulled in more than $600 million in box office earnings alone and a lot more in merchandise sales, isn’t simply filming already. No no no, that isn’t it at all. It’s the fact that, per Supergirl director Lars P. Winther, the movie is flying toward completion at super speed.<\/p>\n

What Is the Latest with Superman: Man of Tomorrow? <\/p>\n

“Man of Tomorrow is going to be epic<\/a>,” he said from the world premiere of Supergirl, via The Brandon Davis Show. “We’re already halfway through shooting. We move quick[ly].”<\/p>\n

That is indeed news for those craving to know the DCU’s future amid the ongoing war between Paramount Skydance and attorney generals around the country, having gotten the green light already from the U.S. Justice Department, to try and acquire Warner Bros. and DC Studios. <\/p>\n

It gives evidence to the fact that Gunn and the DCU are still full steam ahead, and that Corenswet’s Superman \u2014 recently seen on set at The Fox Theater in Atlanta going toe to toe with Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor (with Luthor wearing his iconic warsuit, no less) \u2014 did some double duty in filming his scenes for Milly Alcock’s Supergirl while also shooting Superman: Man of Tomorrow. <\/p>\n

The Kryptonians \u2014 Superman + Supergirl \u2014 Setting the Stage for the DCU<\/p>\n

In 2023, Gunn made an announcement that outlined a minimum of 10 projects for the DCU, labeled the “Gods and Monsters” construct by he and co-CEO of DC Studios, Peter Safran. <\/p>\n

It all began with 2025’s Superman and continues with 2026’s Supergirl, with Lanterns (August 2026 – HBO Max) and Clayface (October 2026 – theaters only) furthering the cause before 2027’s Superman: Man of Tomorrow \u2014 Batman: The Brave and the Bold and a list of animated series also playing key roles in what Gunn is building. <\/p>\n

The Kryptonians are just the beginning of what is expected to be a wild, wild ride, and one that will last for years to come (Corenswet recently coming to Alcock’s rescue in real life organically adding to the hype<\/a>). <\/p>\n

“We’ve created a Superman family so, obviously, she’s in that movie. So you’re seeing them, now, gathered as a team,” Winther said. “Obviously, we brought in their Justice friends again. I just think we’re building up, and you’re gonna see Man of Tomorrow deal with a whole new level of villain.”<\/p>\n

He continued: “You’re also seeing [Supergirl’s] journey in this movie, so when she gets to Man of Tomorrow, you’ll know more about her and their relationship. In Man of Tomorrow \u2014 Supergirl is in it a lot. They’ve started together, so you see their dynamic, which is kinda cool, and in bringing her into the world that was created with the first Superman.”<\/p>\n

Supergirl will premiere in theaters on June 26, 2026, with Superman: Man of Tomorrow on the calendar for a 2027 release.<\/p>\n
