Eric Migicovsky, the founder of Pebble smartwatches<\/a>, reveals the final design of the upcoming Time 2 watch, complete with an e-paper touchscreen, multicolor backlight, and embedded speaker. A refreshed take on the 2016-era Pebble Time 2, the recent timepiece<\/a> design uses stainless steel 316 for both the front and back casing, as well as the buttons with a knurling texture for grip. This knurling matches the design used on previous Pebble Time Steel models. The device\u2019s<\/a> display measures 1.5 inches and shows 64 colors using an e-paper screen, which can consume less power than traditional LCD screens while remaining visible in direct sunlight.<\/p>\n

It is also a touch screen to remove the need for additional physical buttons, and there\u2019s also a multicolor RGB LED system that provides backlighting for the display. In this way, users can customize backlight colors, or the system can change colors based on notifications or applications, allowing more options than single-color backlights used in earlier models. The Pebble Time 2 watch comes out following the announcement that the founder has recovered<\/a> the Pebble trademark after legal issues. He has already unveiled the first demo<\/a> of the new Pebble 2 Duo smartwatch, which was previously known as Core 2 Duo during its run, as part of the brand\u2019s comeback.<\/p>\n

For the Pebble Time 2 watch, the device<\/a> includes two microphones instead of one, with the second one having environmental noise cancellation features. This setup can filter background noise during phone calls or voice commands. A compass sensor joins the existing sensor package for navigation features and location-aware applications, as the compass works with GPS systems in connected smartphones. The back cover of the smartwatch attaches with screws rather than snap-on mechanisms, which the team believes are more water resistant and allow easier battery replacement when needed. Users can remove the cover with standard tools for maintenance access.<\/p>\n

So far, the battery life reaches an estimated 30 days per charge, and because the model uses an e-paper display, the battery and performance are extended. There\u2019s also an installed heart rate monitoring through sensors on the back of the watch, so the device can track steps throughout the day and monitor sleep patterns at night (these features work without requiring a smartphone connection for basic tracking functions). The model even includes a speaker for audio alerts and phone calls, and users can answer calls directly through the watch when connected to a smartphone. The integrated speaker can also play notification sounds and app audio for the wearer.<\/p>\n

The Pebble Time 2 watch includes a linear actuator motor, which provides the vibration for the timepiece design. It\u2019s the reason behind the haptic feedback for notifications, alarms, and app interactions, and the vibration patterns can vary based on the notification type or user preferences. The final waterproof rating remains under testing, but the screw-mounted back cover supports higher water resistance levels, so the users can wear the device during swimming and water sports. The Pebble Time 2 watch has a strap with a 22mm quick-release system, letting the wearer change straps without tools and by only pressing release buttons.<\/p>\n

The team uses hardened glass for the surface of the device to make it scratch resistant, and they\u2019re also planning to release the Pebble Time 2 watch with four color options (the final shades are still undecided). The team adds that the color selection happens after the final options are confirmed and that customers who ordered the Pebble 2 Duo model can switch to the recent model while keeping their place in the order queue. So far, the team plans to ship the Pebble Time 2 starting December 2025.<\/p>\n
