\n Andrew Logan hit a man with a single punch to the face with a closed fist in the early hours of the morning at The Theatre Bar in Barrow, prosecutor Lee Dacre said.\n<\/p>\n
\n The 24-year-old had alcohol spilt over him by the victim, South Cumbria Magistrates\u2019 Court was told.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cAt 4:56 am, the North West Ambulance Service were called to assist a male who had been knocked unconscious bleeding heavily from his face,” said Mr Dacre.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cThe victim sustained substantial injuries to the face and a significant wound to the eye.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cHe was taken to Furness General Hospital where a scan revealed he had bilateral nasal fractures.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n The court heard Logan was seen walking away from the scene. He told officers his victim \u2018deserved it\u2019.\n<\/p>\n
\n Mr Dacre said the victim had been at the bottom of the steps when the defendant launched towards him with a closed fist causing him to fall back onto the floor.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cA security officer who provided a statement said the attack was unprovoked,\u201d Mr Dacre concluded.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cWe do not know about any follow up treatment.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n Logan, of Risedale Road, Barrow, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm at the first opportunity on June 22.\n<\/p>\n
\n He was legally represented by defence solicitor Trystan Roberts in court.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cThe defendant is a man of good character with no previous convictions,\u201d Mr Roberts told magistrates in mitigation.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cHe delivered one punch to the complainant after he had liquid poured over him. He delivered the blow in anger.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cThe complainant self-discharged himself from the emergency department. We have to assume there is no ongoing injury. \u00a0\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cThis is clearly lesser culpability. There was no group activity. It was spontaneous, impulsive and short lived.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cThere is nothing that is particularly aggravating.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cHe is starting a full-time job in September as an apprentice and shares care with a two-year-old child.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n Magistrates ordered Logan to complete 150 hours of unpaid work as part of a 12-month community order.\n<\/p>\n
\n They also told the defendant to pay \u00a385 in court costs and a \u00a3114 victim surcharge.\n<\/p>\n
