Teofimo Lopez is on the verge of landing another big fight off the back of his defeat to Shakur Stevenson. <\/p>\n

‘The Takeover’ was thoroughly outboxed by Stevenson in January as he dropped his WBO super lightweight title<\/a> by way of a lopsided unanimous decision. <\/p>\n

He was subsequently ordered to fight for the vacant IBF super lightweight title against unbeaten Canadian Arthur Biyarslanov.<\/a><\/p>\n

But Lopez turned down the opportunity to move up to 147lbs.<\/p>\n

Rather than easing himself into his new weight class, Lopez is now pursuing a shot at Rolly Romero’s WBA welterweight belt. <\/p>\n

According to esteemed boxing journalist Dan Rafael, both camps are locked into negotiations<\/a> with the fight eyed for sometime in August.<\/p>\n

If an agreement can be struck, then the plan is for the bout to headline a PBC on Prime Video PPV card.<\/p>\n

There is no deal at the time of writing, although everything appears to be moving in the right direction.<\/p>\n

There is, however, a chance that Lopez goes another route, with his manager, Keith Connolly, declaring that he has recently held meetings with Zuffa Boxing and DAZN<\/a> about his client’s future.<\/p>\n

Lopez is currently a promotional free agent after the expiration of his deal with Top Rank.<\/p>\n

Teofimo Lopez has other options <\/p>\n

“I think you could hear some huge news about him in the next week and a half to two weeks.<\/p>\n

How did Rolly Romero become WBA champion?<\/p>\n

Romero picked up the WBA ‘regular’ title in May 2025 with an upset win over Ryan Garcia<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He was upgraded to full champion one year later, but has yet to step between the ropes since the Garcia fight.<\/p>\n

During his stretch on the sidelines, he has seen contests with Devin Haney<\/a> and Manny Pacquiao<\/a> fall by the wayside. <\/p>\n
