The Met Office has warned that “very hot and humid” weather will continue in the South West and Channel Islands ahead of predicted thunderstorms later. <\/p>\n
Temperatures soared well above 30C across Cornwall, Devon, Guernsey and Jersey on Wednesday which led to schools closing and travel disruption<\/a>. Exeter recorded its hottest June day on record as temperatures reached 35C (89.6F) at Exeter Airport.<\/p>\n The Met Office, external<\/a> said temperatures later could reach 32C (89.6F) in Cornwall, external<\/a>, 34C (93.2F) in Devon, external<\/a>, 37C (98.6F) in Guernsey, external<\/a> and 39C (102.2F) in Jersey, external<\/a>, ahead of predicted thunderstorms concentrated in Cornwall and the Channel Islands. <\/p>\n It said the weather would be “turning even hotter as the day goes on with extreme heat continuing along with high humidity” with thundery showers likely. <\/p>\n Sixty schools across Devon, external<\/a> are now either closed to pupils or have reduced the length of their days due to the heat, while 21 schools in Cornwall, external<\/a> have taken similar measures.<\/p>\n
