{"id":657434,"date":"2026-06-25T12:02:08","date_gmt":"2026-06-25T12:02:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/657434\/"},"modified":"2026-06-25T12:02:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-25T12:02:08","slug":"train-hits-car-at-hoghton-level-crossing-one-dead-child-in-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/657434\/","title":{"rendered":"Train hits car at Hoghton level crossing, one dead, child in hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A person has died and a child is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after their car was struck by a train at a level crossing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It happened at about 08:50 BST at a crossing on Station Road in Hoghton, near Preston in Lancashire, British Transport Police (BTP) said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Paramedics and the fire service are in attendance, but there have been no other injuries reported, while the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) announced investigators have been sent to the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Northern Trains warned passengers to check their routes before travelling as there is disruption to the network.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">North West Ambulance Service said several clinical teams attended the scene, including the hazardous area response team and two air ambulances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Sadly, a child has sustained life-threatening injuries and has been taken to Alder Hey Children&#8217;s Hospital for further treatment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;No passengers from the train required treatment from ambulance crews,&#8221; a spokesman said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Lancashire Fire and Rescue Services told the BBC four fire engines and specialist appliances are in attendance and are asking the public to avoid the area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A BTP spokesperson said: &#8220;Two people were in the car and sadly one was pronounced dead at the scene, the other is being taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A person has died and a child is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after their car was struck&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":657435,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[59,57,58,50,56,54,55],"class_list":["post-657434","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-united-kingdom","tag-gb","tag-great-britain","tag-greatbritain","tag-news","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/657434","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=657434"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/657434\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/657435"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=657434"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=657434"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=657434"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
