UK launches long-term farming strategy<\/p>\n

Britain has introduced a new long-term farming plan to help protect food security as climate change and other pressures continue to affect food production. The government says the strategy will encourage more sustainable farming and help farmers keep producing food as weather conditions become more challenging.<\/p>\n

Farmer groups say the plan does not provide enough long-term funding to help the sector adapt. The government has announced more funding for environmental land management schemes and farming innovation. Still, farmer groups say the sector will need greater long-term support to cope with climate change.<\/p>\n

The EU Council has approved new rules for the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR). The changes will simplify sustainability reporting and help investors identify genuinely sustainable investment products.<\/p>\n

Investment funds would be placed into three categories: sustainable, transition, and ESG basics. The changes would also reduce reporting requirements for financial firms and make sustainable investment products easier to compare.<\/p>\n

Stegra has secured \u20ac1.4 billion in new funding to continue building its near-zero-emissions steel plant in Boden, Sweden. Wallenberg Investments led the financing round, with support from existing and new investors as well as the company\u2019s lender group.<\/p>\n

The funding provides Stegra with access to previously agreed-upon debt facilities as construction continues. The company says the investment shows confidence in its plans to produce low-emission steel and help reduce emissions from Europe\u2019s steel industry.<\/p>\n

China raises renewable energy ambitions

China has announced new energy targets that would see half of the country\u2019s electricity come from non-fossil sources by 2030, up from 42.3% in 2025. The latest five-year energy plan also aims for wind and solar to provide more than half of the country\u2019s installed power generation capacity by the end of the decade.<\/p>\n

The government also plans to reduce the carbon intensity of the power sector by more than 10%. The plan also includes more energy storage and higher renewable hydrogen production by 2030.<\/p>\n
