BTS superstar Jimin\u2019s hair has undergone quite the transformation recently. The singer has been known to experiment with various hair<\/a> lengths and colors over the years, but enlisting in the South Korean military in late 2023 introduced a major reset: shaving his head. Now, just a year after the 30-year-old finished his mandatory enlistment, his hair\u2019s longer<\/a> than it\u2019s ever been\u2014and it was on full display at Paris Men\u2019s Fashion Week<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Dior ambassador arrived at the Jonathan Anderson<\/a>-helmed fashion house\u2019s show in Paris Wednesday, flaunting a shoulder-length hairstyle with an 18th century-inspired velvet tailcoat over a green-and-white checkered shirt with light wash denim. The getup paired with the face-framing haircut inspired fans<\/a> to label the singer \u201cThe People\u2019s Prince,\u201d making allusions to fictional royalty in Bridgerton<\/a> and The Princess Diaries<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn contrast to clean lines and structure, the hair feels organic,\u201d Kirk Riley, a master barber and cofounder of the New York City-based barbershop Otis and Finn<\/a>, says. \u201cIt\u2019s loose enough to flow which in contrast to the straight lines of the jacket were able to soften the look and took it from stuffy to chic.\u201d<\/p>\n

A softening element can be especially helpful in pulling together more elaborate looks with historical references. \u201cThe hair was an important counterbalance to the richness of the outfit,\u201d celebrity hairstylist TerraRose Puncerelli<\/a> says. \u201cWhen clothing has that much structure, embellishment, and historical influence, overly polished hair can make the entire look feel costume-like. His soft layers and natural movement introduced an element of ease that modernized the styling. This ultimately made the entire look feel current rather than overly formal.\u201d Like a \u201cmodern take on a Zelda character.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for Jimin\u2019s haircut, Riley describes it as \u201csoft punk.\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s a more androgynous cut than he usually does, bringing more femininity with the soft framing of his face and the textured extensions added for length.\u201d<\/p>\n

The pale color of Jimin\u2019s hair also balanced the deep blue of his jacket. \u201cIt\u2019s not really blonde, but not not blonde,\u201d says Riley. \u201cIt\u2019s a blonde that has been touched with the slightest golden hue. The darker root and buried lowlights create a very dimensional look while also complementing his skin tone.\u201d<\/p>\n

You could recreate the color job yourself, but both Riley and Puncerelli agree that regular maintenance would be of the utmost importance to maintain the result that we saw at Dior. And considering Jimin\u2019s naturally dark hair, this blondeish hue definitely required multiple sessions to achieve this light of a shade.<\/p>\n

In April, the artist did a livestream on Weverse<\/a> with a few of his fellow band members and talked about his decision to sport a longer hairstyle, saying \u201cI just wanted to try something different for once\u201d while also revealing that BTS\u2019 label was unsupportive of the decision and proposed he go for a shorter style. \u201cMy mom was my only supporter,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Now that Jimin\u2019s been showing off the look, fans have joined in the chorus, applauding him for experimenting<\/a>. His choice is just one more data point in a continued shift in men\u2019s hair trends toward longer and looser<\/a> styles.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re seeing a shift away from ultra-structured fades<\/a> and heavily barbered cuts toward longer, more expressive hairstyles<\/a>,\u201d Puncerelli says. \u201cJimin\u2019s look sits at the forefront of that movement because it embraces softness, versatility, and individuality. Rather than relying on length alone, it\u2019s the shape, texture, and movement that make it feel contemporary. It\u2019s a great example of how men\u2019s grooming is becoming less about rigid rules and more about personal style.\u201d<\/p>\n
