The defendant comes from a large family \u2018in which there are various police officers\u2019, said the KC, referring to a number of references which \u2018give an idea of what might have been in his mind\u2019 at the time of the attack.<\/p>\n
His brother Mr Amaad described him as a \u2018caring\u2019 man who had always helped members of his family. Another reference said he had \u2018always been there for the people around him’, while another mentioned his charity work.<\/p>\n
Another said the defendant was \u2018caring, attentive and always makes sure people around him are ok\u2019.<\/p>\n
Another brother, Mohammed Abid, said the defendant had played an important role caring for their mother and was willing to support \u2018vulnerable\u2019 family members.<\/p>\n
The defendant is the youngest of six siblings and the attack was \u2018not what Fahir is\u2019 and it was \u2018completely alien to his character\u2019, according to another reference.<\/p>\n
The KC said the references showed a man who wanted to \u2018right wrongs and had empathy for others\u2019. The defence barrister said his client was \u2018perhaps not thinking of the consequences\u2019 when he went to the defence of his mother.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe instinct is to protect,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
