{"id":659952,"date":"2026-06-26T20:25:19","date_gmt":"2026-06-26T20:25:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/659952\/"},"modified":"2026-06-26T20:25:19","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T20:25:19","slug":"peppa-pig-child-actors-asked-to-sign-over-voices-to-ai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/659952\/","title":{"rendered":"Peppa Pig child actors \u2018asked to sign over voices to AI\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The makers of <a class=\"ck-custom-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/peppa-pig\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Peppa Pig<\/a> have been accused of requiring child actors to sign over their voices for use by <a class=\"ck-custom-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/artificial-intelligence\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ck-custom-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/toys\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hasbro<\/a>, the US entertainment giant that acquired the brand in 2019, has reportedly inserted a clause over <a class=\"ck-custom-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/tv\/0\/why-voiceover-actors-are-leading-the-deepfake-fightback\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AI voice reproduction<\/a> into children\u2019s contracts so they can then be used in advertising.<\/p>\n<p>AI clauses are becoming increasingly common in acting contracts, leading to concern within the industry around blanket licences to clone voices, especially for children who rely on parent or carer consent.<\/p>\n<p>A thousand actors, agents and parents have signed an open letter drawn up by the Agents of Young Performers Association (AYPA).<\/p>\n<p>It condemned AI clauses in children\u2019s contracts, citing the recent example of a \u201cmajor studio who owns the IP for an international children\u2019s franchise producing a long running animated television series\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The letter does not directly name Peppa Pig or Hasbro, but industry sources are said to have told Deadline that it refers to the show.<\/p>\n<p>Children should be \u2018fully exempt\u2019<\/p>\n<p>AYPA has declined to identify the series and has not revealed the exact wording of the AI clause in question.<\/p>\n<p>The letter wrote: \u201cWhere the performer is a child, consent must be treated with the greatest of care.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChildren cannot provide fully informed legal consent and a parent or guardian\u2019s approval should never be used as a blanket licence to capture, clone, train or reuse a child\u2019s voice indefinitely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny agreement involving a child\u2019s voice should be fully exempt from all AI usage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo child should have their future professional identity shaped by an AI model created before they were old enough to understand its consequences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir voice should not become a permanent commercial asset before they have the legal and personal capacity to decide for themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The makers of Peppa Pig have been accused of requiring child actors to sign over their voices for&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":659953,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[20],"tags":[554,733,4308,7503,44184,50,80708,5438,86,23552,56,54,55],"class_list":["post-659952","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-artificial-intelligence","tag-ai","tag-artificial-intelligence","tag-artificialintelligence","tag-children","tag-film-industry","tag-news","tag-peppa-pig","tag-standard","tag-technology","tag-toys","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/659952","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=659952"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/659952\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/659953"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=659952"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=659952"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=659952"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
