<\/p>\nBBC Radio 2 star Trevor Nelson has said he will be taking a break from work commitments while he deals with \u201chealth issues\u201d.<\/p>\n
The broadcaster and DJ, 62, has been absent from his regular slot after undergoing tests.<\/p>\n
He usually presents weekdays 2-4pm on Radio 2, and BBC Radio 1Xtra each Sunday from 11am \u2013 1pm.<\/p>\n
He said he is now \u201cconcentrating on getting better, being back to 100% me and to getting back behind the mic and the decks\u201d.<\/p>\n
In a post on Instagram, he said: \u201cI\u00a0wanted to let my followers, radio listeners and all my Soul Nation party-people know that I\u2019m going to be taking a little break from my work commitments.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome of you may already have noticed that I\u2019ve not been on my daily Radio 2 slot this week.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter a routine check-up I was advised to have some follow up tests. As a result, I will be taking some further time off. As I\u2019m sure you can appreciate with health issues, it\u2019s important to deal with facts and not speculate.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo I\u2019m concentrating on getting better, being back to 100% me and to getting back behind the mic and the decks.\u201d<\/p>\n
Earlier this week Nelson was at the Television and Radio Industries Club (Tric) Awards, where he was recognised with the Tric special award.<\/p>\n
Listeners can hear him present The Music Is Black concert from Hackney Empire on Sunday night on BBC Radio 2, which was pre-recorded last month.<\/p>\n

The event was a celebration of black music in Britain featuring performances from Alison Limerick, Courtney Pine and Omar amongst others.<\/p>\n
Radio 2 presenter Vernon Kay paid tribute to Nelson on his mid-morning show shortly after the news of his illness broke.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cEveryone at BBC Radio 2, including the mid-morning show, are sending Trevor all the very very best wishes, we absolutely love him to bits.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s a stalwart broadcaster within the UK \u2013 I played golf with him a couple of weeks ago and he was in a buoyant mood.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I know that this challenge is something that Trevor is going to face head on. So Trevor we are sending you all our love and hopefully see you on the links very soon my friend.\u201d<\/p>\n
Meanwhile Richie Anderson, who has been covering for Nelson said: \u201cSending all the love in the world to our Trevor, we\u2019ve got your back buddy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clara Amfo will cover Nelson\u2019s afternoon show from June 29 until July 3, with DJ Spoony taking over from July 6 until further notice.<\/p>\n
Lorna Clarke, director of music at the BBC said: \u201cEveryone at BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 1Xtra wishes Trevor a very speedy recovery and we all look forward to him returning to his shows whenever he is ready.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nelson has been DJing since he was young but first made his name as a pioneering DJ on London\u2019s pirate radio station Kiss FM in the 1980s<\/p>\n
This led to a daytime slot and a directorship once the radio station went legal.<\/p>\n
After 10 years with Kiss FM, he moved to Radio 1 in\u00a0 1996 to present Rhythm Nation and a year later he began a second show on Saturday afternoons.<\/p>\n
He has presented shows for MTV \u2013 The Lick and The Lick Chart \u2013 as well as the BBC \u2013 Trevor Nelson\u2019s Urban Choice and The Lowdown.<\/p>\n
