{"id":660760,"date":"2026-06-27T08:03:08","date_gmt":"2026-06-27T08:03:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/660760\/"},"modified":"2026-06-27T08:03:08","modified_gmt":"2026-06-27T08:03:08","slug":"bedford-train-crash-everything-we-know-one-week-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/660760\/","title":{"rendered":"Bedford train crash: Everything we know one week on"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">RAIB investigators are still analysing evidence from the crash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Data recorders from the trains, sometimes known as &#8220;black boxes&#8221;, have been recovered. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Investigators have also obtained CCTV footage, signalling data and recordings of radio communications.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Initial findings showed the Corby service had been travelling at about 76mph  (122km\/h) before its brakes were applied nine seconds before impact. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The maximum speed for trains in this area is between 125 mph (201 km\/h) and 100 mph (161 km\/h), though this depends on the type of train.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">At the point of impact, the train was travelling at about 49mph (79km\/h).<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Prior to the collision it had passed two yellow signals, which warn a driver they should be prepared to stop at a red signal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The train then passed a red signal shortly before colliding with the stationary train.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"RAIB investigators are still analysing evidence from the crash.
