{"id":660772,"date":"2026-06-27T08:14:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-27T08:14:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/660772\/"},"modified":"2026-06-27T08:14:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-27T08:14:09","slug":"cyclists-brave-the-heat-for-charity-ride-from-lincoln-to-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/660772\/","title":{"rendered":"Cyclists brave the heat for charity ride from Lincoln to York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A group of cyclists are braving the heatwave, taking on a 200-mile ride to support children in care.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Forty-five cyclists, along with their support crew, set off from Lincoln Cathedral on Friday and aim to arrive at York Minster on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The group, called Biking for Children in Care, is raising money for Become, a charity that campaigns for a better care system for young people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Gill Timmis, one of the cyclists taking part, said: &#8220;The bike rides are not just a physical challenge but about raising awareness of what the care system is like, how it&#8217;s in crisis and what needs to change.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Timmis, 75, added: &#8220;The reason we do it is because I&#8217;m a social worker and I&#8217;ve seen the difficulties that children face.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I think it&#8217;s not a well-known issue and we&#8217;ve managed to raise the profile of the issue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">According to Become, the number of children in care in Lincolnshire stands at 805, which is an increase of 18% in five years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Almost half of them are living more than 20 miles away from their friends, family and school, the charity added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A group of cyclists are braving the heatwave, taking on a 200-mile ride to support children in care.&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":660773,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[37],"tags":[4985,101,56,54,55],"class_list":["post-660772","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-cycling","tag-cycling","tag-sports","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/660772","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=660772"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/660772\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/660773"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=660772"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=660772"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=660772"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
