York Knights boss Mark Applegarth has provided an honest answer to rumours surrounding the club\u2019s financial situation.<\/p>\n

A report emerged this week that the Knights were seeking a monetary advance from the RFL to relieve financial pressures on the club.<\/p>\n

Both York and Toulouse Olympique arrived in Super League at the beginning of this season on half of the central funding as the 12 other clubs, and only received \u00a3650,000 as opposed to \u00a31.3 million.<\/p>\n

With salaries and just overall costs being more in the top flight as opposed to the Championship, the North Yorkshire outfit are on a shoesting budget, and need to be more careful with their finances given they are 650k behind the rest of the competition.<\/p>\n

However, amid the rumours, Applegarth has revealed he has no current knowledge about any financial issues at the club.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cI\u2019m not going to lie to you, of course I\u2019ve seen them [the rumours]. But, if there\u2019s one thing I\u2019ve never worried about at York\u00a0since I\u2019ve been at the club, it\u2019s that side of it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI get paid to coach, players get paid to play, that\u2019s what we focus on. All I can say, from my point of view,\u00a0is I\u2019ve never once worried about that,\u00a0and I don\u2019t intend to start worrying about it.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll let the powers that be\u00a0answer that in a more detailed response,\u00a0but from a performance side of view\u00a0and a payment sort of thing, never stressed once about it,\u00a0and I don\u2019t envision that changing if I\u2019m honest with you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of course, rumours going round could cause unrest in and around the group, and in these situations, communication is key. The boss revealed that whilst there hasn\u2019t been any meeting between the higher-ups and the squad yet, but expects there to be in the near future.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve never stressed about it once,\u201d Applegarth stressed. \u201cThat\u2019s my honest answer with you,\u00a0and I don\u2019t intend to. I\u2019m sure there will be [communication], just to reassure everyone, but all I can do from a head coach point of view\u00a0is say there\u2019s never been an issue with that,\u00a0I don\u2019t envision they have.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t read the article. I got told it was to do with\u00a0a short-term cash flow issue, which I know will be\u00a0getting fixed up in the near future,\u00a0and as I say, I\u2019ll let the powers that be sort all that out.\u201d<\/p>\n

York Knights earn fourth Super League win as performance hailed amid financial uncertainty rumours<\/p>\n

The Knights defeated Castleford Tigers 20-14 last night, as a great defensive showing, combined with attacking grit and determination, saw them over the line.<\/p>\n

It would be easy to say that the recent reports could have distracted some of the players, especially with them coming so close to game day.<\/p>\n

That fact made the win even nicer to swallow, with Applegarth praising the Knights for their ability to bounce back after the 72-20 defeat to Wigan last week.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201c100% [it could have been a distraction], and I think the most honest answer\u00a0I can give you,\u00a0because after that defeat last week,\u00a0I\u2019m sure people were thinking \u2018Oh, is it things in the background?\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was nothing to do with that. It was literally \u2013 we came up against\u00a0an absolute red-hot team that,\u00a0if they play like that, I struggle to see who beats them,\u00a0and we were off.<\/p>\n

\u201cNaturally, people put\u00a0two and two together\u00a0and come up with what they do\u00a0and yeah, we only found out\u00a0yesterday afternoon,\u00a0but as I say, I\u2019ll let the powers that be\u00a0respond to that in a more in-depth interview,\u00a0but from my point of view,\u00a0I never stressed much about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The York boss confirmed that players had been paid on time at present, and with rumours of a financial investor set to join the club soon, their reported issues could be solved sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n
