{"id":661038,"date":"2026-06-27T11:51:20","date_gmt":"2026-06-27T11:51:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/661038\/"},"modified":"2026-06-27T11:51:20","modified_gmt":"2026-06-27T11:51:20","slug":"will-we-see-more-heatwaves-this-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/661038\/","title":{"rendered":"Will we see more heatwaves this summer?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Forecasters issued their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/weather\/articles\/clypk7j0qqdo\" class=\"ssrcss-51189d-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">three-month summer outlook<\/a> on 1 June which suggested higher-than-normal chances of hotter weather during June. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A &#8220;few notable high temperature spikes&#8221; are also possible this summer, according to MeteoGroup who currently provide BBC Weather with data.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">These seasonal forecasts have so far proved accurate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">For only the second time since their inception in 2021, a red extreme heat warning was issued by the Met Office this week across south-east Wales and southern England.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Schools were closed and the transport network strained as people tried to deal with the extreme heat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">As for the rest of summer &#8211; which runs through to the end of August \u2013 forecasters suggest &#8220;an increased chance of heatwaves and heat-related impacts&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">They also say &#8220;above-average temperatures&#8221; are expected for each month of July and August, and &#8220;significant bursts&#8221; of heat are expected in the UK, and across Europe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">According to the Met Office, having a hotter summer is now twice as likely than the period of 1991-2020, which is consistent with our warming climate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Forecasters issued their three-month summer outlook on 1 June which suggested higher-than-normal chances of hotter weather during June.&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":661039,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[59,57,58,50,56,54,55],"class_list":["post-661038","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-united-kingdom","tag-gb","tag-great-britain","tag-greatbritain","tag-news","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/661038","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=661038"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/661038\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/661039"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=661038"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=661038"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=661038"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
