{"id":66127,"date":"2025-08-14T10:10:07","date_gmt":"2025-08-14T10:10:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/66127\/"},"modified":"2025-08-14T10:10:07","modified_gmt":"2025-08-14T10:10:07","slug":"brady-gilmore-continues-winning-roll-with-back-to-back-victories-at-volta-a-portugal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/66127\/","title":{"rendered":"Brady Gilmore continues winning roll with back-to-back victories at Volta a Portugal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"cecd5441-c5df-463a-958a-c03d294d2dcc\">Brady Gilmore didn&#8217;t let the rest day at the ten stage <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/volta-a-portugal-em-bicicleta\/\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/volta-a-portugal-em-bicicleta\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Volta a Portugal<\/a> interrupt his run, making it back-to-back victories in after Wednesday&#8217;s efforts in Guarda.<\/p>\n<p>The 24-year-old Israel Premier Tech Academy rider took his first victory of the UCI 2.1 ranked race on Monday&#8217;s stage 5, recovering from the heat of the earlier days in the race \u2013 which also faced a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/news\/fire-leads-to-neutralisation-and-deviation-for-part-of-stage-4-of-volta-a-portugal\/\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.cyclingnews.com\/news\/fire-leads-to-neutralisation-and-deviation-for-part-of-stage-4-of-volta-a-portugal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">neutralisation as a result of a fire on stage 4<\/a> \u2013 to take a clear cut win from the bunch. He launched from his team lead-out at 200m to go in the finale of the sprinter&#8217;s stage but it was a different scenario on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\" data-url=\"\" href=\"\" data-hl-processed=\"none\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"cecd5441-c5df-463a-958a-c03d294d2dcc-2\" class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">The final rider from the break, Gilmore&#8217;s teammate, was caught with 1,500m of stage 6 to go, with the field splitting on the short but sharp climb to the finish.<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe plan was to put Daniel in the break, so it was a perfect situation for us with him up the road,\u201d said Israel Premier Tech Academy sports director Ruben Plaza in a statement. \u201cOur second card to play was Brady, in case it came back for a sprint, and in the end, it worked out perfectly. When I saw him smiling on the climb, I knew he would win this one. Once again, it was another perfect day for us here in Portugal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It was the team&#8217;s third win of the race with Pau Mart\u00ed claiming stage 2, before Gilmore \u2013 who was also third on stage 1 \u2013 took his two wins in a row, the first coming from a bunch sprint and the second with a powerful showing in the uphill finale which was decided from among a leading group of six.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI felt good on the last climb. I wasn\u2019t really suffering,\u201d said Gilmore. \u201cWhen I launched my sprint with 250 to go, I almost didn\u2019t need to go max, which felt a little strange, to be honest, but I\u2019ll take it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paywall\" aria-hidden=\"true\">It is the eighth victory of the season for Gilmore, who signed with the Israel Premier Tech Academy from the second half of 2024 and is moving up to ProTeam Israel-Premier Tech in 2026 after inking a three-year deal. The two latest winning additions to his results sheet follow an overall and stage win at the Circuit des Ardennes and Tour de Taiwan plus two stage wins at the Tour du Rwanda.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">The latest race content, interviews, features, reviews and expert buying guides, direct to your inbox!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got a wicked week of racing here,\u201d Gilmore said. \u201cTwo podiums and three stage wins, and we\u2019re only six stages in. We\u2019re really showing how good this team is here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The attention will now turn to the overall competition on stage 7, which has a summit finish to Covilh\u00e3. The team&#8217;s best placed rider on the GC ahead of the mountain stage is fellow Australian Zac Marriage in 12th place.
