It has finally been confirmed just whether or not Gervonta Davis<\/a> remains WBA lightweight champion.<\/p>\n

\u2018Tank\u2019 has endured a turbulent 12 months, with inactivity and issues outside of the ring leading to many questions over his status as WBA lightweight champion.<\/p>\n

Despite it being widely believed that Davis had already been stripped of the gold, it has been recently reported that \u2018Tank\u2019 was in talks for a WBA title clash with Floyd Schofield<\/a>, potentially paving the way for him to retain his belt if he was to go ahead with the contest.<\/p>\n

Those hopes looked to soon end after it has now emerged that Davis has reached out to WBO welterweight champion Devin Haney<\/a> over a potential battle, and that has led the WBA to act promptly.<\/p>\n

In an official statement<\/a>, the WBA confirmed once and for all that \u2018Tank\u2019 is the champion in recess, and they have ordered Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi to fight for the vacant belt.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe World Boxing Association (WBA) has declared Gervonta Davis the Champion in Recess at lightweight while designating Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi to fight for the division\u2019s now-vacant title.<\/p>\n

The Championships Committee of the pioneering organization reviewed Davis\u2019 legal situation and reached its decision after determining that the ongoing proceedings could prevent him from fulfilling his championship obligations in the short and medium term.\u201d<\/p>\n
