The US military has launched further strikes on multiple targets in Iran<\/a>, the US Central Command (Centcom) confirmed, a day after it had struck Iran in retaliation for a drone attack on a cargo ship in the strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n

Centcom said its strikes on Saturday were in \u201cdirect response to continued Iranian aggression against commercial shipping\u201d. The US strikes targeted \u201cIranian military surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense sites, drone storage facilities, and minelayer capabilities\u201d, Centcom said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The flare-up in tensions comes<\/a> as Washington and Tehran have been negotiating a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to end an unpopular war that has sent global oil prices skyrocketing and resulted in thousands of civilian<\/a> deaths.<\/p>\n

In the wake of the latest round of strikes US president Donald Trump posted on Truth Social:<\/p>\n

\u201cThere may come \u200ca point when we are no longer able to be reasonable, and \u200cwill be forced to militarily \u200bcomplete the job that we very successfully started,\u201d \u2060he said, \u201cIf \u200bthat happens, \u200bthe Islamic \u200bRepublic \u200cof Iran \u200bwill \u200bno longer exist.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following the US strikes, Iran\u2019s Islamic \u2060Revolutionary Guard Corps said early on \u2060Sunday that \u2060its \u200bnavy and aerospace forces \u2060had launched a joint missile and drone \u2060operation targeting \u200bUS military \u200csites in \u200cKuwait and Bahrain.<\/p>\n

\u201cViolating the ceasefire is contrary \u200cto clause 1 of the Islamabad \u200bMemorandum of Understanding and will result in the complete \u2060halt of all \u200bdiplomatic processes,\u201d \u200bthe Guard Corps \u200bsaid in \u200ba statement, \u200caccording to \u200bPress \u200bTV.<\/p>\n

Any further aggression would be met with a \u201ccrushing response\u201d, they said.<\/p>\n

The Guards \u201cdestroyed eight important US military facilities at the Ali al-Salem base in Kuwait and at the Fifth Fleet naval base in Port Salman in Bahrain,\u201d they said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny enemy aggression, whatever the pretext, even against insignificant targets … will have a crushing response,\u201d the Guards added.<\/p>\n

After the retaliatory strikes on Friday, the US military<\/a> said it would continue to enforce the shaky ceasefire with Iran even as disagreements have emerged over the terms of Iran\u2019s nuclear program, the question of tolls in the strait of Hormuz, and other thorny questions including Iran\u2019s ballistic missiles program.<\/p>\n

Centcom said the strikes were in response to Iranian attacks.<\/p>\n
