If you own a movie on a Blu-ray, short of someone breaking into your house and running off with it, you own it forever.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s not the case with digital purchases, of course, and this latest story is a timely reminder of why some PS5 fans are so frustrated with Rockstar\u2019s decision to ship GTA 6<\/a> as a code in a box<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re in Europe and you bought any of the 550+ movies<\/a> distributed by Studio Canal, then you\u2019re out of luck. They will be permanently deleted from your account on 1st September, 2026 and there\u2019s absolutely nothing you can do about it.<\/p>\n

There\u2019ll be no refunds or recompense for affected owners; they\u2019re gone for good.<\/p>\n

In a legal notice on its website<\/a>, the Japanese giant blamed \u201ccontent licensing agreements\u201d for the removal. Among the movies being removed are Terminator 2 and Total Recall.<\/p>\n

I assume this is all above board and within the legal boundaries of Sony\u2019s EULA, but ethically it\u2019s a kick in the stomach. It\u2019s certainly a reminder of the ephemeral nature of digital content.<\/p>\n

You should get an email from PlayStation if you are affected, but you can find a list of all impending content removals through here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As far as I can see, this doesn\u2019t affect customers in the United States just yet, but I\u2019ll check with Sony to make sure.<\/p>\n
