Cities\u00a0can be\u00a0beautiful in different ways. They might be replete with grand, historic architecture like Paris<\/a>, surrounded by awesome nature, like Medell\u00edn<\/a>, or simply have a quality that makes theme completely unique, like Lisbon<\/a> with its azulejo tilework. But which urban landscapes can definitively say that they are more attractive than others?<\/p>\n

Time Out has just revealed a new\u00a0ranking of most beautiful cities on the planet<\/a>.\u00a0We surveyed\u00a024,000 urbanites, asking them if they would describe their city as \u2018beautiful\u2019, to come up with the list of 10. Luckily for us Brits, one city in the ranking was\u00a0from the UK.<\/p>\n

According to the survey respondents, Edinburgh<\/a>\u00a0is the world\u2019s second prettiest city. The Scottish capital was described as beautiful by\u00a084 percent of its locals. And it\u2019s not surprising, because\u00a0it\u2019s home to a real melange of architectural styles \u2013 from\u00a0the New Town\u2019s crescents of Georgian townhouses to the Old Town\u2019s tight, higgledy-piggledy medieval streets and striking Gothic spires.<\/p>\n

The city is a delight to walk around, and has inspired countless books, films and TV shows, including David Nicholls\u2019 One Day, Frankenstein\u00a0and of course Harry Potter.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As well as being an absolute stunner, Edinburgh is a titan when it comes to culture<\/a>, food<\/a> and history<\/a>, and provides\u00a0easy\u00a0access to some of Scotland\u2019s most bonnie landscapes<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Scottish\u00a0metropolis was beaten only by South Africa\u2019s Cape Town<\/a>, which\u00a0scored first place thanks to\u00a086 percent of locals saying it was beautiful.\u00a0<\/p>\n
