Gervonta Davis<\/a> has reportedly joined forces with esteemed trainer Jose Benavidez Sr<\/a>, who sees no need for \u2018Tank\u2019 to rematch one of his former foes.<\/p>\n

The former world champion is set to return to action later this year, only a specific date and opponent remains unclear after he pulled out of negotiations with Floyd Schofield.<\/p>\n

This fight would have presented \u2018Tank\u2019 with the opportunity to reclaim his WBA title, which he retained with a controversial draw against Lamont Roach<\/a> in March 2025.<\/p>\n

Since then, the American has remained out of the ring \u2013 facing domestic violence allegations \u2013 but is seemingly eager to stage his comeback fight before long.<\/p>\n

It has also been reported that Davis is now training with Benavidez Sr<\/a>, the father and head coach of three-division world champion David Benavidez.<\/p>\n

If this is indeed the case, it is unlikely that \u2018Tank\u2019s\u2019 next outing will be against Isaac \u2018Pitbull\u2019 Cruz, who was initially reported as his comeback opponent.<\/p>\n

Their first encounter resulted in a unanimous decision victory for Davis, yet Cruz gave a tenacious account of himself when they collided in December 2021.<\/p>\n

According to a resurfaced Fight Hub TV interview<\/a> with Benavidez Sr, though, there is very little value in the 31-year-old entering a rematch with \u2018Pitbull\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no f**king way Tank Davis is gonna give Pitbull a rematch \u2013 there\u2019s no need for it. I think Gervonta won [their first fight] fair and square.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a Mexican \u2013 I like Pitbull \u2013 but I think Gervonta would stop him [in a rematch]. He\u2019s just a f**king animal; he\u2019s a monster.\u201d<\/p>\n

If Davis has in fact parted ways with Calvin Ford, his long-time trainer, then it is fair to assume that Cruz will not be at the top of Benavidez Sr\u2019s list of opponents.<\/p>\n
