A disabled grandfather claims he was kicked out of Asda following a dispute over a mobility scooter. Tony Daniels, 73, from Mossley Hill, Liverpool, said he “couldn’t believe” the incident, in which he alleges he was asked to leave the supermarket in Widnes town centre<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Grandad-of-nine Tony said that, on June 18, 2025, he was “surrounded” by security guards and told to leave the store after he refused to hand over his personal details in order to use a mobility scooter on the premises. Tony said that he is not asked for such details when shopping at his local Asda<\/a> branch on Smithdown Road in Liverpool<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Asda confirmed it is company policy to request certain details from any customer wishing to use a mobility scooter in store, adding that it has since written to Tony to outline the policy.<\/p>\n

Retired builder Tony explained that he had requested use of one of the mobility scooter trolleys at the Asda on Widnes Road, only to be informed by a security guard that he would need to provide his name and address. Tony declined, and requested to speak with a manager, reports the Liverpool Echo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tony, who uses two walking sticks to get around, said: “He went on his walkie-talkie, and the next minute, I was surrounded by three to four security guards.<\/p>\n

“I am disabled and on two sticks. I have a lot of health issues, and cancer is the latest one I’ve got.<\/p>\n

“As [the manager] was walking towards me, her first words to me were, \u2018I don’t like your attitude, and I’m going to tell you to leave. We want you to leave now.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Tony added: “It was just a horrible experience. It wasn’t so much that I couldn’t get the buggy to do my shopping, but the way I was treated. I’m disabled, I wasn’t a threat to anybody.<\/p>\n

\u201cI use the Asda store on Smithdown Road in Liverpool, and it has never been a problem whatsoever. They\u2019re great with me. I just ask for a buggy, and they say, “No problem.” They help me with my packing and shopping.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dad-of-four Tony added: “The incident has knocked me back a lot, and I still get upset about it. I’m 73, on two walking sticks, I can barely breathe, and I thought I was going to have a hypo in the store.”<\/p>\n

An Asda spokesperson said: \u201cTo ensure colleague and customer safety, we politely ask anyone using a mobility scooter in store to provide a few details and, where needed, use one of our in-store scooters.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is standard across all our stores and is something we ask of all customers using a mobility scooter, always with the best intentions and with the safety of all customers in mind.<\/p>\n
