Bleed American<\/a> is turning 25. Jimmy Eat World<\/a>\u2019s platinum-selling album came out July 24, 2001, rocketing them to new levels of fame and going down as a classic at the intersection of punk, emo, and alternative rock. In celebration of their career-altering album\u2019s silver jubilee, the band has been taking fans through the tracklist in a new song-by-song video series.<\/p>\n

Following the previous installment on their top-five pop hit \u201cThe Middle,\u201d the Jimmy Eat World\u2019s latest video takes fans inside \u201cYour House,\u201d the fourth song on the album. Frontman Jim Adkins and producer Mark Trombino lead the discussion, with further input from Tom Linton, Rick Burch, and Zach Lind.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe demo of \u2018Your House\u2019 hints at the dynamic possibilities,\u201d Adkins explains early on. \u201cOur job in making the song for real was all about just exploding what it is that it wanted to be, and going all out and interesting and wide.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Trombino asks whether Jimmy Eat World play \u201cYour House\u201d live, Adkins replies, \u201cWe would need like a whole marching band percussion section to do it. We\u2019d need about 16 extra hands to do \u2018Your House\u2019 album style.\u201d Despite some pushback from his bandmates, who insist they can pull it off, Adkins emphasizes the intricate nature of the song\u2019s production, deconstructing the mix to reveal its many moving parts.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cThe idea of \u2018Are we gonna play this live?\u2019 never entered my mind with something like this,\u201d Adkins says. \u201cIt\u2019s just about making it rad. I think if we had a whole album of stuff we couldn\u2019t do live, then that would be an issue. But the fact was, there were so many songs that were just straight-ahead rock band capture that it almost needs songs like this, where it\u2019s like, \u2018Forget it\u2019s a band at all.\u2019 There\u2019s the elements of a band, but how it\u2019s being presented to you is insane.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Adkins highlights the composition and production strategies that make \u201cYour House\u201d so effective, including the \u201cunreal triangle\u201d within the track\u2019s thicket of production. Lind, the drummer, makes sure to highlight Adkins\u2019 most essential contribution.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think this is one of the best vocal performances on the album. It\u2019s so good,\u201d Lind says. \u201cAnd like everything else in the song, it\u2019s so wide, there\u2019s all these elements. But I think the true strength of the song is just how well it\u2019s sung and how expressive Jim is. \u2018Cause without that vocal, I feel like there\u2019s not enough to justify all of the other crazy shit we\u2019re doing to it.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Jimmy Eat World recently embarked on a Bleed American 25th anniversary tour that is taking them across North America and the United Kingdom for much of this year. The band is performing the album in full each night, then tacking on highlights from throughout their career.\n<\/p>\n
