{"id":666582,"date":"2026-06-30T19:16:12","date_gmt":"2026-06-30T19:16:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/666582\/"},"modified":"2026-06-30T19:16:12","modified_gmt":"2026-06-30T19:16:12","slug":"brighton-sign-leeds-defender-pascal-struijk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/666582\/","title":{"rendered":"Brighton sign Leeds defender Pascal Struijk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/football\/teams\/brighton-and-hove-albion\" class=\"ssrcss-1fqyhkk-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brighton<\/a> have signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/football\/teams\/leeds-united\" class=\"ssrcss-1fqyhkk-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Leeds United<\/a> defender Pascal Struijk for an undisclosed fee understood to be about \u00a320m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 26-year-old centre-back, whose Elland Road contract was due to expire at the end of the 2026-27 season, has signed a five-year contract with the Seagulls.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Struijk joined <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/football\/teams\/leeds-united\" class=\"ssrcss-1fqyhkk-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Leeds<\/a>&#8216; under-23s from Ajax in January 2018 before graduating to the first team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He made 196 appearances for the Whites, including 34 in the Premier League last season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Pascal is exactly the sort of profile we wanted to add to the squad this summer, in that he&#8217;s got good Premier League experience and has his peak years ahead of him,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/football\/teams\/brighton-and-hove-albion\" class=\"ssrcss-1fqyhkk-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brighton<\/a> head coach Fabian Hurzeler said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;He really showcased what he&#8217;s capable of last season &#8211; great defensive actions while comfortable on the ball &#8211; with his style well suited to ours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;He is also a leader, having worn the captain&#8217;s armband at times for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/football\/teams\/leeds-united\" class=\"ssrcss-1fqyhkk-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Leeds<\/a> last season.
