Lancashire head to Derby bidding for a third successive Blast victory after successes on the road against Durham and Leicestershire either side of the fortnight break for a couple of Championship matches to be played.<\/p>\n

With five games remaining, the Lightning are very much back in the mix for quarter-final qualification.<\/p>\n

They currently sit fourth in the table on 12 points from seven games. Nottinghamshire lead the way on 20 from eight, Yorkshire are second on 18 from eight and Durham third also on 12 from seven.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The top two definitely qualify, with Lancashire having Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire again, Yorkshire and Durham to play in their last five games.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Liam Livingstone is amidst a run of form from the gods, the 32-year-old\u2019s last four matches yielding scores of 44, 81, 85 not out and 74.<\/p>\n

The latter came last time out against the Foxes at Grace Road on Friday night.<\/p>\n

Next up are a Derbyshire side who have lost four of their seven games, winning two. The other was a tie, last time out against Yorkshire at Chesterfield on Sunday afternoon. Both teams finished on 215, Yorkshire failing to get two off the last ball to win. \u00a0<\/p>\n

This is the first of two meetings between the two counties inside a week, with the return clash taking place at Emirates Old Trafford on Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lancashire will be without Jos Buttler, Saqib Mahmood, Phil Salt and Luke Wood, who have all joined up with England for their IT20 series against India.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Opposition\u00a0<\/p>\n

Derbyshire are realistically going to have to be perfect from here if they are take their name away from a band of four counties who have never won this title, Durham, Glamorgan and Yorkshire being the others.<\/p>\n

They have, in fact, only ever reached Finals Day once, in 2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Falcons have failed to get out of the North Group in each of the last three seasons.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Captained by destructive wicketkeeper-opener Aneurin Donald, they can choose two from three overseas players. They have Australian top-order batter Caleb Jewell, Pakistani left-arm wrist spinner Sufyan Moqim and his compatriot Akif Javed, a left-arm quick, in their squad.<\/p>\n

Opposition player to watch\u00a0<\/p>\n

Martin Andersson is having a fine season with the bat in Derbyshire\u2019s top order, and not just in the Vitality Blast.<\/p>\n

The former Middlesex man, a Reading native, has topped 500 runs in the County Championship, including an early-season career best 228.<\/p>\n

Right-handed Andersson, 29-years-old, is leading the way for the Falcons with Blast runs as well.<\/p>\n

He has scored 288 runs in seven innings, a haul which includes four fifties. Opening the batting, he hit 51 off 27 balls against Yorkshire on Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Previous meeting\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lancashire completed the Blast double over Derbyshire last summer, winning by 80 runs on the back of a 243-7 total at Derby in late June before winning by 42 runs at Emirates Old Trafford just over a fortnight later.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s the contest we will be concentrating on here.<\/p>\n

Opener Phil Salt top-scored for the Lightning with 44 off 35 balls, an innings supplemented by Liam Livingstone\u2019s 35 off 23 and Ashton Turner\u2019s 31 not out off 19 in a 178-6 total.<\/p>\n

Pacer Zak Chappell struck three times for the Falcons.<\/p>\n

In reply, Derbyshire slipped to 0-2 after two balls of their reply, as Luke Wood removed opener Caleb Jewell and then Martin Andersson.<\/p>\n

They later slipped to 86-6 before recovering to finish on 136-6, with Wayne Madsen\u2019s non-threatening 53 off 40 balls the standout innings for the visitors.<\/p>\n

Wood stood out with 3-26 from his four overs.<\/p>\n

Keaton Jennings wants Lancashire to be relentless in their pursuit of quarter-final cricket in the Vitality Blast, with the Lightning on the early stages of a winning run they need to extend.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Captain Jennings was delighted with the way his side played at Leicester on Friday.<\/p>\n

He also spoken about the impending England absentees, confident that others within his squad can step up.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cFor us at the minute, it\u2019s, \u2018Make sure we play good cricket\u2019. Play good cricket, win games of cricket and make sure we put together whole games like we did at Leicester.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been good in little fractions of games but haven\u2019t quite nailed the whole thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jennings added: \u201cWe have four guys going away to England next week, and hopefully they fly. That gives opportunities for four more guys next week.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s about guys coming in and taking up that mantle, which is so cool.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have some fantastic cricketers not playing, and it\u2019s really exciting.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHopefully we can go from strength to strength.\u201d<\/p>\n

How\u2019s Stat!\u00a0<\/p>\n

Liam Livingstone is on course to break a couple of notable Lancashire T20 records.<\/p>\n

He has hit three successive fifties, matching what Steven Croft and Karl Brown both achieved in 2015. He is also sat on 25 sixes for the 2026 campaign, two short of the Red Rose record 27 achieved by Tim David in 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n
