\n Donald Trump’s involvement in Scottish golf began with his ambitious plans for the Menie Estate on the Aberdeenshire coast.\n<\/p>\n

\n In 2006, the New York property developer unveiled proposals for a major golf resort at Balmedie, north of Aberdeen<\/a>, promising significant investment and hundreds of jobs.\n<\/p>\n

\n The development became one of the most contentious planning battles in modern Scottish history due to concerns over its impact on environmentally protected sand dunes. Following a public inquiry, the Scottish Government<\/a> approved the project in 2008, paving the way for construction to begin.\n<\/p>\n

\n Trump significantly expanded his Scottish golf interests<\/a> in April 2014 when he purchased Turnberry resort in South Ayrshire and renamed it Trump Turnberry.\n<\/p>\n

\n Acquired from Dubai-based Leisurecorp for around \u00a335 million, the deal brought one of the world’s most famous golf venues under his ownership.\n<\/p>\n

\n Turnberry’s Ailsa course has hosted multiple Open Championships and is regarded as one of the crown jewels of Scottish golf.\n<\/p>\n

\n Over the following years, the Trump Organization undertook an extensive redevelopment programme at Turnberry, ultimately investing more than \u00a3100 million in renovations.\n<\/p>\n

\n Trump Turnberry was targeted by pro-Palestinian activists in March 2025 when campaign group Palestine<\/a> Action vandalised the Ayrshire resort.\n<\/p>\n

\n This year, activists unfurled a huge Palestinian flag on the beach nearby.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n

\n In the early hours of March 8, 2025, protesters sprayed messages including “Free Gaza<\/a>” and “Free Palestine” on buildings and painted “Gaza Is Not For Sale” on part of the golf course.\n<\/p>\n

\n Police Scotland launched an investigation after receiving reports of damage at around 4.40am. The protest came in response to comments made by Donald Trump about the future of Gaza, with the group claiming responsibility for the action.\n<\/p>\n

\n The combined income from the US president\u2019s Scottish golf resorts was substantially lower than the more than 1.4 billion dollars (\u00a31 billion) generated by his cryptocurrency ventures \u2013 an industry he has promoted while in office.\n<\/p>\n

\n This included landmark legislation known as the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for US Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act, which introduced a regulatory regime for a type of cryptocurrency pegged to the US dollar.\n<\/p>\n

\n The federal law was seen as giving greater legitimacy to digital assets by moving them out of a legal “grey zone” and into an established regulatory framework.\n<\/p>\n

\n According to the disclosure figures, Mr Trump earned 635 million dollars (\u00a3480 million) from the sale of meme coins bearing his image.\n<\/p>\n

\n This was on top of income from a cryptocurrency business co-founded by Mr Trump and his sons called World Liberty Financial, which included more than 520 million dollars (\u00a3393 million) from the sale of crypto tokens.\n<\/p>\n

\n The president also reported more than 80 million dollars (\u00a360 million) in income from settlements with various media companies, including ABC, CBS, Meta and YouTube.\n<\/p>\n

\n In addition, Mr Trump earned income from merchandise royalties, including Bibles, trainers and fragrances.\n<\/p>\n

\n Trump-branded watches alone generated 4.7 million dollars (\u00a33.5 million) in income.\n<\/p>\n

\n Prior to the latest financial disclosure, Forbes had estimated Mr Trump\u2019s net worth at six billion dollars (\u00a34.5 billion), up from 2.3 billion dollars (\u00a31.7 billion) in 2024.\n<\/p>\n

\n The White House has denied any conflict of interest and hit out at critics.\n<\/p>\n

\n Responding to the release of the financial records, a White House spokesperson said: \u201cNeither the president nor his family has ever engaged \u2013 or will ever engage \u2013 in conflicts of interest.\n<\/p>\n

\n \u201cPresident Trump proudly made the United States the crypto capital of the world through executive actions, supporting legislation like the GENIUS Act, and other common-sense policies to drive innovation and economic opportunity for all Americans.\n<\/p>\n

\n A spokesperson for the president\u2019s family business, the Trump Organization, said: \u201cThis disclosure once again demonstrates that the Trump Organization continues to maintain a strong financial position, supported by world-class, valuable assets, substantial liquidity and a conservative balance sheet.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

\n They added: \u201cThe breadth and depth of this filing further underscores our commitment to transparency.\n<\/p>\n
