St Helens half-back George Whitby has taken to social media to provide an update on his recovery after undergoing surgery.<\/p>\n

Whitby, who has played seven games for Saints this season, was originally planned to feature in his eighth \u2013 at home to Huddersfield Giants.<\/p>\n

However, after pulling up in the Captain\u2019s Run the day before, he dropped out of the side along with back rower Matt Whitley, whose season is now all but over.<\/p>\n

Whitby suffered a knee injury that could see him miss up to two months of action, as the Red Vee\u2019s injury list continues to worsen.<\/p>\n

When revealing the injury news, assistant coach Lee Briers said: \u201cWe all love George and we\u2019ll get him back as quick as we can. I\u2019m sure George will be thorough with his rehabbing and whatnot, and he\u2019ll be back in no time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026Injuries are part of the game. You have to overcome adversity, and as a half-back, there\u2019s a lot of adversity that goes your way. Wins or losses are down to a half-back.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re disappointed for George, but also disappointed for the club because we have put a lot of time with George. We hold him in high regard, but George will come back stronger.\u201d<\/p>\n

St Helens prospect sends message after surgery<\/p>\n

Speaking on social media, Whitby said: \u201cSurgery done and dusted.<\/p>\n

\u201cThankfully a much better outcome than first expected. Looking forward to getting stuck into rehab and working hard to come back stronger and better than ever.<\/p>\n

\u201cThanks for all the messages and support, and can\u2019t wait to be back out there soon doing what I love and enjoy most.\u201d<\/p>\n
