Microsoft Teams’ new AI feature could spot what you don’t know during meetings and answer before you ask, raising fresh privacy concerns. <\/p>\n

Microsoft Teams receives dozens of features per month, as some of you may have realized from our recap for the month of June 2026<\/a>. Lately, a lot of Microsoft’s focus with Teams has revolved around integrating AI capabilities into the product<\/a>. Now, the Redmond tech giant has detailed yet another AI enhancement coming soon to Teams, and it sounds quite powerful.<\/p>\n

Essentially, Microsoft is enabling Facilitator in Teams to automatically detect knowledge gaps in meetings and resolve them. The AI agent will detect uncertainty in the tones and questions of meeting participants in real-time and share answers to their queries directly in the chat after browsing the web. Imagine a meeting around AI growth strategies, and someone seems unfamiliar with the concept of large language models (LLMs). Facilitator will detect this uncertainty based on various signals and automatically describe an LLM in detail, powered by the web, ideally before the person interrupts the conversation flow to ask about the terminology. Microsoft has explained that Facilitator will be actively monitoring meeting conversations to detect implicit and explicit knowledge gaps. However, all responses will be limited to the scope of the agenda of the meeting as well as conversations.<\/p>\n

This is not a free feature either. It can only be enabled by a participant if they have a Microsoft 365 Copilot Premium license, but not everyone needs to have this license. Microsoft claims that the feature isn’t intrusive either and will likely generate less than one response per meeting, on average. Additionally, this capability will work in internal and cross-tenant meetings, but not in calls, town halls, and webinars.<\/p>\n

Of course, there is the privacy element involved too, especially since the meeting will be monitored live by the Facilitator agent, so it’s probably not a wise idea to enable it in conversations with confidential information. It will not be enabled by default, but a user can add or remove it at any point. IT admins can also disable Facilitator at a tenant-level, and it won’t work either if they toggle off Copilot web search completely.<\/p>\n

Given the guardrails around this feature, it’ll be interesting to see how the market responds. It can bring tangible productivity benefits, but will likely be used only by organizations which trust Microsoft completely, to the point that they have a Microsoft 365 Copilot Premium license. The company is already receiving flak for a controversial location tracking feature<\/a> that many claim will enable employee tracking behaviors. Meanwhile, the Facilitator feature will become generally available by late August.<\/p>\n
