{"id":669971,"date":"2026-07-02T15:01:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T15:01:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/669971\/"},"modified":"2026-07-02T15:01:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T15:01:08","slug":"two-teenage-boys-who-raped-girls-given-four-years-detention-after-appeal-court-changes-sentences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/669971\/","title":{"rendered":"Two teenage boys who raped girls given four years&#8217; detention after appeal court changes sentences"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Court of Appeal considers sentences of three boys convicted of rapepublished at 13:25 BST<\/p>\n<p>13:25 BST<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The sign for the Royal Courts of Justice, set on the stone wall of the building\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/06a7095f-5554-4f28-8fc7-62179c591e59.jpg.webp\"  width=\"1016\" height=\"571\" class=\"ssrcss-egie1y-Image edrdn950\"\/>Image source, Getty Images<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Senior judges at the Court of Appeal will this afternoon announce whether the sentences of three boys convicted of rape should change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Two 15-year-olds were given non-custodial sentences after attacking two girls in separate incidents in Fordingbridge, Hampshire in 2024 and 2025. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The judge said he wanted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c5y779yeq0eo\" class=\"ssrcss-ztter6-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;avoid criminalising these children unnecessarily&#8221;<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A third boy, now aged 14, was also convicted at Southampton Crown Court for his involvement in the second attack, and was also given a non-custodial sentence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The sentences led to a public outcry, and were referred to the Court of Appeal by the Attorney General, Lord Hermer, as &#8220;unduly lenient&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A two-day hearing began yesterday at the Royal Courts of Justice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">After 14:00 BST, the judges will announce their decision.
