The latest from director Johannes Roberts (The Strangers: Prey at Night<\/a>, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City<\/a>) is Paramount\u2019s upcoming horror movie Primate, and it\u2019s bringing its gory mayhem to theaters early next year.<\/p>\n

Primate releases in theaters on\u00a0January 9, 2026.<\/p>\n

In the horror movie, a group of friends\u2019 tropical vacation turns into a terrifying, primal tale of horror and survival. No other plot details have been revealed so far.<\/p>\n

Roberts co-wrote the screenplay with\u00a0Ernest Riera. The film stars\u00a0Johnny Sequoyah and Oscar\u00ae-winning Troy Kotsur (CODA).<\/p>\n

If Roberts\u2019 involvement and the description of Primate\u2019s plot doesn\u2019t hook you, then it\u2019s worth noting that the upcoming horror movie has been set to open this year\u2019s Fantastic Fest<\/a>. The festival describes the film as \u201can unbelievably entertaining horror film, filled with gory mayhem.\u201d<\/p>\n

Walter Hamada<\/a> is producing\u00a0<\/a>Primate<\/a>, part of a new horror pact with Paramount.<\/a><\/p>\n

Hamada, who recently left WB\/DC, has a ton of horror cred from his time at New Line, producing countless horror movies, including the Friday the 13th and\u00a0A Nightmare on Elm Street remakes, as well as\u00a0The Conjuring and its various spinoffs, and the 2017 adaptation of\u00a0IT.<\/p>\n

Via his production company\u00a018hz Productions, Walter Hamada is slated to produce several mid-budget horror films for Paramount Pictures per year, for both theaters and streaming.<\/p>\n
