Newly crowned 147lbs champion Liam Paro’s team are set to make contact with Manny Pacquiao over a world title clash.<\/p>\n

Paro recently defeated Lewis Crocker<\/a> on home soil in Australia to capture the IBF welterweight title, to become champion in a second weight class.<\/p>\n

Mayweather and Pacquiao’s lucrative sequel is off and now the latter is trying to find a new solution<\/p>\n

There are several big fights in the division right now which could include Filipino legend Pacquiao.<\/p>\n

The boxing great was due to return in a blockbuster sequel with Floyd Mayweather but it has now been postponed<\/a> leaving his final half of the year free.<\/p>\n

Pacquiao previously harboured ambitions of becoming the division’s oldest ever world champion, and came ever so close to doing so against Mario Barrios<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And now Paro’s promoter George Rose is open to beginning negotiations for a clash.<\/p>\n

\u201cManny is the one fight we want to make for Liam,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cImagine Manny coming back to Australia. Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney and Rolly Romero all hold world titles (in the welterweight division), but we don\u2019t have to do a unification fight.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Jeff (Horn) fought Manny, he didn\u2019t have the belt. It would be unreal. <\/p>\n

“Imagine doing a card with Manny, Paro and possibly the two Tszyus. It would be sensational.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pacquiao has fought once on Australian shores, in what ended in a historic upset, as he was outpointed by Jeff Horn in 2017.<\/p>\n

It was a historic event and it is likely that there would be significant interest if the veteran was to return down under against a home favourite.<\/p>\n

After a disastrous collapse of his lucrative bout with Mayweather, the priority for Pacquiao may well now switch to history.<\/p>\n

Rolly Romero was a primary option for the former eight-weight world champion prior to signing to face his American foe.<\/p>\n

That is another fight that could be brought back into the fold, although the champion wasn’t impressed with previous talks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pacquiao may also choose to wait until legal issues surrounding Mayweather can be resolved to face ‘Money’ again in 2027.<\/p>\n

But time is certainly ticking for the Asian icon, who will need to launch an unlikely assault now, or he will not be sanctioned to fight beyond his physical capabilities.<\/p>\n

And the CEO of Pacquiao Promotions Jas Mathur added that alternate plans are already being made.<\/p>\n
