Off the back of the recent film, excitement surrounding the Backrooms creepypasta<\/a> is at an all-time high, and that’s now translated into making Escape the Backrooms<\/a> the best-selling PS5 game in the USA and Europe last month on Sony’s digital storefront.<\/p>\n

Yes, for the month of June 2026, Escape the Backrooms outsold all new releases on the PS Store<\/a>, and even performed better than the likes of 007 First Light<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It’s an online co-op game for up to four players where the idea is to escape the backrooms together, utilising proximity chat. “Be warned, as teammates may no-clip into other areas of the map and every member of your team must find the exit alive to escape.”<\/p>\n

You can get it for \u00a39.99 \/ $12.99 on the PS Store, and it’s managed to top the PS Store downloads chart<\/a> for June. Here it is in action:<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

If you look at the European PS Store chart specifically, there’s actually a second backrooms experience in the top 20.<\/p>\n

Backrooms: Escape Together<\/a>, which looks to offer a similar experience for up to five online players, was Europe’s 18th best-selling game last month.<\/p>\n

June 2026 was a very quiet month for new PS5 releases, but still, to put the game into context, Escape the Backrooms outsold 007 First Light, UFC 6<\/a>, Gothic 1 Remake<\/a>, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight<\/a>, and all Call of Duty<\/a> games.<\/p>\n

That’s quite the achievement for an indie title.<\/p>\n
