{"id":672687,"date":"2026-07-04T02:12:17","date_gmt":"2026-07-04T02:12:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/672687\/"},"modified":"2026-07-04T02:12:17","modified_gmt":"2026-07-04T02:12:17","slug":"jack-knifed-lorry-leads-to-severe-delays-on-the-m5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/672687\/","title":{"rendered":"Jack-knifed lorry leads to &#8216;severe&#8217; delays on the M5"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worcesternews.co.uk\/news\/26252314.live---jack-knifed-truck-leads-closures-northbound-m5\/?ref=ed_recent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">incident<\/a> took place this afternoon between junction 5 (Droitwich\/Wychbold) and junction 4A (M42).\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It led to the closure of all northbound lanes and long delays back to Worcester as emergency crews worked at the scene.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The heavy goods vehicle&#8217;s fuel tank was split, spilling diesel across all lanes and requiring specialist cleaning resources to be called in.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  AA Roadwatch said: &#8220;Road closed and severe delays due to jack-knifed truck and fuel spillage on M5 northbound between J5 A38 (Droitwich\/Wychbold) and J4A M42.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Congestion to just after J7 (Worcester\/Evesham), with the opposite side back to J4 (Bromsgrove\/Stourbridge).&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Delays of nearly an hour were reported.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Images from the scene showed the lorry sprawled across the carriageway.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A motorist who passed by on the southbound side at around 3.30pm said: &#8220;The tailback was only about two miles at the time but I think it&#8217;s greater now.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;I didn&#8217;t see the incident but went past before the police arrived.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;The traffic was already heavy but got worse due to rubber-necking.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  READ MORE: <a href=\"https:\/\/%20https\/\/www.worcesternews.co.uk\/news\/26154590.cheeky-shed-advert-m5-hiding-speed-camera\/?ref=ed_recent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Cheeky shed advert above the M5 &#8216;hiding speed camera&#8217;<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  No details have yet been released about any injuries or the condition of the driver.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  In an update, National Highways said: &#8220;All vehicles caught within the closure have now been released past the scene.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Recovery of the involved vehicle is well underway, and an initial inspection of the carriageway is being carried out to assess the damage.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The incident took place this afternoon between junction 5 (Droitwich\/Wychbold) and junction 4A (M42).
