Durham Women vs Lancashire Women, Match 37, Vitality Blast Women<\/a><\/p>\n Prediction<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Durham 80-3, Lancashire Thunder 79<\/p>\n Durham 5pts, Lancashire Thunder 0pts.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n Durham boosted their chances of appearing in the Vitality Blast Finals Day when they defeated Lancashire Thunder by seven wickets at Banks Homes Riverside.<\/p>\n Medium-pacer Trudy Johnson led they way, taking a career-best three for 7 as Thunder were dismissed for 79 in 19.3 overs, No3 Darcey Carter offering the only prolonged resistance with an unbeaten 32.<\/p>\n In reply, Hollie Armitage made 44 not out as Durham coasted home in 13.3 overs, thereby earning five points for their convincing victory, although young leg-spinner Venus Weerapulli offered visiting supporters some consolation and finished with two for 18 from her four overs<\/p>\n Thunder\u2019s innings began abysmally when Meg Lanning was leg-before to Johnson for a five-ball nought in the first over and that wicket set the tone for a powerplay which ended with the visitors on 21 for two.<\/p>\n Eve Jones was caught at mid-off for 11 off Heather Graham and the outstanding Johnson deepened Lancashire\u2019s plight when she had Emma Lamb caught behind by Mia Rogers for six and bowled Tilly Kesteven for nought in the space of three balls.<\/p>\n Those wickets left Lancashire on 21 for four after seven overs and although Ellie Threlkeld helped Carter add 18 for the fifth wicket, she holed out at long on off Katherine Fraser for 4 before a proper recovery could be effected.<\/p>\n Fi Morris was then bowled by Mady Villiers for three to leave Lancashire on 43 for six in the 13th over. The flimsiest respectability was then supplied by Kate Cross, who put on 32 with Carter but Durham\u2019s spinners took the next three wickets as the visitors subsided from 75 for six to 79 all out, leaving Carter unbeaten on 32.<\/p>\n On an evening to remember for Durham\u2019s bowlers, Katie Levick took two for 15 and Mady Villiers two for 17, both spinners completing their four-over allocation.<\/p>\n Lancashire\u2019s hopes of a miraculous victory were raised when Villiers was brilliantly caught by Lamb off Cross for two in the third over but the visitors\u2019 bowling honours were claimed in impressive fashion by the Weerapulli who had both Emily Windsor (11) and Bess Heath (2) caught by Cross.<\/p>\n But Armitage was not to be denied and Heather Graham was unbeaten on 19 when the facile victory was completed.\u00a0<\/p>\n Durham\u2019s victory finally ends Lancashire\u2019s chances of appearing in Finals Day, although those chances were purely arithmetical before the game began.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Lancashire captain, Ellie Threlkeld, said:<\/p>\n \u201cIt was a really tough pitch to bat on and runs weren\u2019t flowing for us. We lost a few too many wickets too early and struggled to gain any momentum. Our reflections as a batting group will be that we need to bat smarter on pitches like that and realise that getting to 120-140 would be a really good score on that pitch.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re used to thinking about how we get to 180 but we need to be smarter and read conditions better. That\u2019s something they did very well but I think if we\u2019d got 120, it would have been a good game of cricket.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve got some experienced cricketers in our line-up that didn\u2019t see what we needed to do today and one of our younger cricketers, Darcey Carter, did that the best out of anybody.<\/p>\n \u201cVenus has been absolutely amazing. She\u2019s 16, she spins the ball both ways and she can bowl under pressure in T20 Blast matches.<\/p>\n \u201cBut what\u2019s more impressive is her attitude and her willingness to learn. I\u2019ll be very surprised if she\u2019s not playing for England in however many years\u2019 time.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Durham bowler, Trudy Johnson, said:<\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019re under pressure from the start when you\u2019ve got a player like Meg Lanning at the other end and so it was good to get out.<\/p>\n \u201cEverything felt good from the start and I was just happy to get some wickets.<\/p>\n \u201cWe had a bonus point at the back of our minds when we bowled them out for 79 and I think we felt pretty confident.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was a nice bowling track and I\u2019m glad we bowled first. Heather and Hollie batted well and I\u2019m just pleased they got us over the line.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s handy that we\u2019ve got back-to-back home games and it saves on the travel as well.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The Blaze Women vs Surrey Women, Match 38, Vitality Blast Women<\/a><\/p>\n Prediction<\/a><\/p>\n By Jon Culley, ECB Reporters Network supported by Rothesay<\/p>\n Surrey Women 155-9 beat The Blaze 121 by 34 runs <\/p>\n Australian off-spinning all-rounder Charli Knott took a career-best six for 25 for the The Blaze but it was not enough to deny Surrey in the Vitality Blast women\u2019s competition at Trent Bridge.<\/p>\n Surrey\u2019s off-spinner Kalea Moore was the match-winner with a career-best five for 22 to put her side top of the points table.<\/p>\n On a tricky surface, the defending champions made 155 for nine after opting to bat first, the substance of their innings coming in an 82-run fifth-wicket partnership between Phoebe Franklin (46 off 30 balls) and Alice Monaghan (35 off 27).<\/p>\n Tammy Beaumont (37 off 36), Kathryn Bryce (31 off 21) and Knott (28 off 23) gave the home side every chance of overhauling Surrey\u2019s score to go top of the points table but from 98 for two, The Blaze collapsed to 121 all out for a 34-run defeat.<\/p>\n Knott\u2019s feat lifted the 23-year-old\u2019s tally to 16 as leading wicket-taker in this season\u2019s Vitality Blast women\u2019s competition.<\/p>\n The Monaghan-Franklin partnership, which spanned 51 deliveries, rescued Surrey from 45 for four after Knott had taken three wickets with her first seven deliveries. <\/p>\n She had Paige Schofield caught at mid-on, won a short-lived battle with Laura Harris by having her compatriot leg before and trapped Jemima Spence in front, Bryony Smith missing a straight one from left-arm spinner Maria Andrews in between.<\/p>\n But Franklin found the boundary five times in her first 10 balls faced and her aggression was matched by Monaghan as the fifth-wicket pair dominated until Monaghan put too much elevation on a flighted ball from Knott and was caught at deep midwicket. Franklin departed moments later, bowled via pad and forearm as she stepped across to sweep Kirstie Gordon.<\/p>\n Moore and Alice Davidson-Richards added a useful 22 before Knott\u2019s final over claimed two more scalps as Moore hit to extra cover and Ryana MacDonald-Gay was stumped off a wide. Priyanaz Chatterji was run out off the final ball of the innings.<\/p>\n The Blaze had Marie Kelly run out first ball but Kathryn Bryce hit six fours in a 21-ball 31 before being undone by a brilliant stumping by Spence off seamer MacDonald-Gay.<\/p>\n Bryce and Beaumont added 56 before Knott\u2019s 28 off 23 balls helped the England opener advance the Blaze total by another 42 to 98 for three in the 13th.<\/p>\n But the innings ran into trouble as Knott dragged a Harris full toss straight to deep square and Moore struck twice in four deliveries, Beaumont succumbing to another full toss and Georgia Elwiss holing out from a slog-sweep, MacDonald-Gay taking both catches on the midwicket boundary.<\/p>\n Surrey were now in control as Emma Jones fell leg before to Dani Gregory\u2019s legspin and Sarah Bryce perished on the point boundary, leaving The Blaze 111 for seven in the 17th, running out of wickets and time, Moore picking up the last three as Spence pulled off two more stumpings and Gordon was bowled.<\/p>\n Surrey\u2019s Kalea Moore, who took five for 22, said:<\/p>\n \u201cI thought we started off really well. Alice and Phoebe put her on a really honest partnership, and the fact that we managed to get to 150 odd, we did really well. It was a slow pitch and it was getting lower.<\/p>\n \u201cWith the ball, we just stuck to our lines. They got away in the power play, but I think we brought it back really well. To get them 120 odd all out, that was pretty good.<\/p>\n \u201cWr used the conditions to our advantage, and obviously with the short boundary, we knew they were going to take that on, so into the wicket, and hopefully we could take those catches, and we did.\u201d<\/p>\n The Blaze head coach Craig Cumming said:<\/p>\n \u201cThe pitch was a little bit slow but with the positions they were in at times I felt they could have got 170, so if you\u2019re chasing 150, 160 on basically a good Trent Bridge surface you\u2019re always in the game. When things dry up a bit with the hot weather, it is going to hold up a bit more, but highly skilled players can adapt to the conditions in front of them.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd at the 12 over mark, we’re in a really nice position. You take that just about every time. But you’ve still got to finish the game and all of sudden you start losing wickets, we didn’t build partnerships, too many dot balls. Before you know it the game\u2019s gone, it happens so quick.<\/p>\n \u201cTo lose eight wickets for 24, it\u2019s hard to process. The players have got to look at themselves and the situation they found themselves in, the decisions they made and the options they took. But the good thing is that we go again on Sunday. Yorkshire win by 11 runs.<\/p>\n Yorkshire 4 points, Somerset 0 points\u00a0<\/p>\n By Graham Hardcastle, ECB Reporters Network supported by Rothesay<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Lauren Winfield-Hill and Sterre Kalis equalled a world record for the highest fourth-wicket partnership in women\u2019s T20 history as their 167 helped Yorkshire beat Somerset by 11 runs in a Headingley run-fest and claim a first Vitality Blast win of 2026.<\/p>\n Captain Winfield-Hill hit a career best 99 off 55 balls and Netherlands star Kalis 84 not out off 50 as Yorkshire totalled 210 for four, the highest total by any team in this year\u2019s Blast.<\/p>\n Somerset started their chase well, but their task was too tall. Unbeaten Australian overseas Anika Learoyd top-scored with a superb career best 103 off 49 balls including four sixes. But England leg-spinner Sarah Glenn impressed for Yorkshire with two for 30 in Somerset\u2019s 199 for five.\u00a0<\/p>\n This fourth defeat in nine games dents Somerset\u2019s Finals Day ambitions. Yorkshire had lost seven of their previous eight.\u00a0<\/p>\n In February just gone, UAE pair Esha Oza and Heena Hotchandani also shared 167 for the fourth wicket against Nepal in Bangkok.\u00a0<\/p>\n Erin Thomas top-edged a skied return catch to Alex Griffiths six balls into a contest played on a batter\u2019s dream surface.\u00a0<\/p>\n Maddie Russell then had Ami Campbell caught at cover and Jess Jonassen at point, with Yorkshire – they had been 18 for three – reaching the end of the powerplay at 42 for three.<\/p>\n Winfield-Hill and Kalis quickly got going.<\/p>\n The former swept back-to-back boundaries off Lola Harris\u2019s leg-spin in the 10th over to move into the forties, and the score reached 82 for three at halfway.\u00a0<\/p>\n Winfield-Hill reached a 31-ball fifty shortly afterwards and also faced two head-high full tosses from Niamh Holland, who was removed from Somerset\u2019s attack having bowled only nine balls.\u00a0<\/p>\n Winfield-Hill had been dropped not long before reaching her fifty – and when similarly classy Kalis reached hers off 33 balls, Yorkshire were flying at 153 for three in the 16th.\u00a0<\/p>\n Somerset were put under the cosh as the pair hit 34 boundaries between them, with Winfield-Hill falling agonisingly short of a maiden century when she miscued to backward point to hand Russell a late third wicket.\u00a0<\/p>\n Surprisingly, it was Bex Odgers who hit the first six of the match when she pulled Hannah Rainey over deep backward square-leg as 12 came from the first over of the Somerset chase.\u00a0<\/p>\n Odgers pulled another off Rainey as Somerset reached the end of the powerplay at 61 for one, losing captain Sophie Luff to Jess Woolston\u2019s seam.<\/p>\n Odgers made it to 39 before being trapped lbw by Glenn with the score on 81 in the ninth over.<\/p>\n Learoyd played nicely and pulled Woolston for six over midwicket en-route to her 27-ball fifty, by which time Somerset were 129 for two after 13, needing 82 more.<\/p>\n Glenn bowled a brilliant 15th over, conceding only three and bowling Holland. And at 140 for three, despite Learoyd\u2019s presence on 57, it felt key.<\/p>\n So it proved, Somerset even retired Griffiths out on three before Learoyd reached her century off 48 balls as Jonassen defended 32 off the last over.\u00a0<\/p>\n Yorkshire\u2019s captain Lauren Winfield-Hill said\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cIt was an absolute belter of a pitch.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI know it was a tight margin in the end, but I don\u2019t think we bowled that badly. We just got three or four in the arc of Learoyd, which we could have avoided.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThe crowd was awesome. These double headers bring a lot, that one-club feel where you can stay and watch the blokes, they come early and ask about the pitch. It\u2019s been a great afternoon.<\/p>\n \u201cI know people say, \u2018Oh, a hundred\u2019, but it doesn\u2019t really make a difference to me. I was trying to get a four off that ball, I wasn\u2019t playing for my hundred at that point.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was a great game of cricket from both sides, and I\u2019m thrilled that we\u2019re genuinely on the board.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Somerset\u2019s Anika Learoyd said\u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cIt was pretty gutting to be honest. I think we probably let them get about 30 too many with the bat.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cCredit to Lauren Winfield-Hill, I thought that was an outstanding innings.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI really thought we were right in that up until the 17th over, but then they took the game away from us.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve been waiting for a while for my T20 game to click, and it did today. It doesn\u2019t mean to say it will stay clicked, but that\u2019s a slight positive I can take out of today.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not someone who studies the table too well, so I\u2019ll wait to be told exactly what the equation is for us.
