{"id":674249,"date":"2026-07-05T00:26:46","date_gmt":"2026-07-05T00:26:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/674249\/"},"modified":"2026-07-05T00:26:46","modified_gmt":"2026-07-05T00:26:46","slug":"nhs-dorset-secured-funding-for-new-obesity-care-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/674249\/","title":{"rendered":"NHS Dorset secured funding for new obesity care programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The project aims to reach people across the region who have limited access to existing support and is part of a national scheme exploring fresh approaches to obesity care.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It takes a community-led approach and prioritises individuals who often face barriers to healthy weight services, including children with disabilities, adults with learning disabilities, care-experienced young people, and those with serious mental health conditions.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Amanda Webb, chief officer for population health improvement at NHS Dorset, said: &#8220;This funding is a real opportunity to bring obesity support closer to people and local communities, and by designing new local services and using digital tools, we hope to reach people who too often miss out.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Support will be tailored to individual needs and may include help from community organisations, health professionals, and digital solutions such as apps and wearable devices.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Nicola Bent, chief executive of Health Innovation Wessex, said: &#8220;Health Innovation Wessex will be supporting the Dorset team to evaluate new, co-produced pathways for under-served groups.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;We&#8217;re funded by NHS England and the government&#8217;s Office for Life Sciences to spread and adopt new technology and ways of working, and this is the latest way in which we&#8217;re helping our local health and care systems to improve the health of the Dorset population.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The funding comes from the Obesity Pathway Innovation Programme, which is supported by government and industry partners.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  NHS Dorset is collaborating with Bournemouth University\u2019s PIER Project and Health Innovation Wessex to deliver the programme.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The programme will run until March 2029.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The project aims to reach people across the region who have limited access to existing support and is&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":674250,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[43],"tags":[102,2960,56,54,55],"class_list":["post-674249","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-healthcare","tag-health","tag-healthcare","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/674249","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=674249"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/674249\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/674250"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=674249"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=674249"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=674249"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
