A hospital ward in Glasgow has been partially closed due to a suspected case of Ebola virus, according to STV.<\/p>\n

It is understood that tests are being carried out on an individual who arrived at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital\u2019s Acute Receiving Unit on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The tests will confirm whether the patient has contracted the deadly and contagious disease, which has recently be spreading rapidly in the Democratic Republic of Congo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Uganda is also responding to an outbreak of Ebola and one case has been recorded in France<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Public Health Scotland (PHS) confirmed that a scheme which aims to protect and monitor the health of those who may travel from the UK to affected areas for their work has been activated. <\/p>\n

If the individual is confirmed to have Ebola, it would be the first case to be detected in Scotland since nurse Pauline Cafferkey<\/a> underwent treatment at the country\u2019s largest hospital in 2016 after a recurrence of the illness.<\/p>\n

She initially contracted the disease while working at an Ebola Treatment Centre in Kerry Town, Sierra Leone.<\/p>\n

A PHS spokesperson said there are \u201cno confirmed cases of Ebola\u201d in Scotland right now.<\/p>\n

However, it continued: \u201cPublic Health Scotland is working closely with UKHSA, to assess routes by which travellers may enter the UK from affected countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe risk from people arriving in the UK from affected areas is low and the NHS has safe procedures in place for detecting and managing any such cases.”<\/p>\n

The UK has committed up to \u00a321 million to support the local response to Ebola in DRC, helping to protect frontline workers and vulnerable communities. <\/p>\n
