Those currently prescribed atorvastatin are urged to be careful about which other medicines they take alongside it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Atorvastatin is a <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/health\/pharmacist-issues-warning-5-million-37323820\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">type of statin, which helps to lower cholesterol levels in the blood<\/a>. It is commonly prescribed to patients with high blood cholesterol to reduce the risk of heart disease, including heart attacks and strokes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Your GP may also suggest atorvastatin if you have a <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/health\/nhs-statins-side-effects-mean-37159773\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">family history of heart disease,<\/a> or a long-term health condition such as type 1 or type 2 diabetes or rheumatoid <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/lifestyle\/health\/facts-arthritis-how-you-can-6416990\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">arthritis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">However, as with all medications, it is vital to follow official advice on how to take it safely. On its <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/medicines\/atorvastatin\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">website<\/a>, the <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/nhs\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">NHS<\/a> lists several &#8220;cautions with other medicines&#8221;. If you think that atorvastatin is causing side effects and they&#8217;re making you want to stop taking it, talk to your doctor first.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThey may be caused by another problem and not the medicine.
