\n Norfolk County Council has opened a safeguarding inquiry into the support provided to the 30-year-old, who is from the county.\n<\/p>\n
\n He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the incident at Johnson’s of Old Hurst, a zoo in Huntingdon, where he was visiting with two carers on June 18.\n<\/p>\n
\n The child was thrown 15ft into the enclosure with at least 15 crocodiles, where he was then bitten by one of the reptiles.\n<\/p>\n
\n He sustained serious injuries and has since had five operations, with at least two more still to follow.\n<\/p>\n
\n The man was released on bails hours after his arrest as police deemed him unfit for interview.\n<\/p>\n
\n A source close to the case has claimed his two carers left the enclosure with the man shortly after the zoo’s owners jumped into the enclosure to save the pit.\n<\/p>\n
\n “They [the carers] tried to get him into the car. Another member of staff was there and prevented them from leaving,” the source said.\n<\/p>\n
\n Other witnesses have also claimed the carers were “on their phones” and “ten metres behind” the man when the incident occurred.\n<\/p>\n
\n Norfolk County Council has said a so-called Section 42 enquiry into the man’s care is currently under way.\n<\/p>\n
\n These require local authorities to investigate when they suspect an adult with care in support is experiencing, or at risk of, abuse or neglect.\n<\/p>\n
\n The council told the Telegraph newspaper<\/a> it had stopped referrals to the care provider involved in the suspect’s case.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n While the man is from the county, it is understood his care was not commissioned, provided or paid for by Norfolk County Council.\n<\/p>\n \n A spokesman for the council said it was\u00a0working with “partners in the health and care system to identify and review all those individuals receiving care from this provider and to ensure the care they are receiving is of the quality and consistency they expect and deserve”.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n
