{"id":676791,"date":"2026-07-06T14:20:16","date_gmt":"2026-07-06T14:20:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/676791\/"},"modified":"2026-07-06T14:20:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T14:20:16","slug":"pension-savings-lift-namibias-investment-assets-to-n342bn-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/676791\/","title":{"rendered":"Pension savings lift Namibia\u2019s investment assets to N$342bn &#8211; Business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pension savings helped increase assets managed by Namibia\u2019s investment firms to N$342.6 billion during the first quarter of 2026.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority\u2019s (Namfisa) latest quarterly report, assets under management increased by 1.3% between January and March, and were 18.2% higher than a year earlier.<\/p>\n<p>The regulator says the growth was \u201csupported by favourable market performance, dividend and interest income earned during the period, and continued net inflows from investors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nearly half of all the money managed by investment firms belongs to pension funds.<\/p>\n<p>Pension funds accounted for 42.5% of total assets under management, with investment managers overseeing N$145.5 billion on behalf of retirement funds by the end of March.<\/p>\n<p>Unit trust schemes made up a further 35.1% of the industry\u2019s assets, while long-term insurers accounted for 12%.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining assets were managed for individuals, companies, medical aid funds and other investors.<\/p>\n<p>The report also shows most of the country\u2019s invested wealth remains in Namibia.<\/p>\n<p>Local investments accounted for 52.3% of all assets under management, amounting to N$179.2 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Investments within the Common Monetary Area, which includes South Africa, Lesotho and Eswatini, represented 34.7%, while 12.9% was invested in offshore markets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNamibian-domiciled investments continued to constitute the largest share of the total assets under management\u201d, reflecting a continued preference for local investment,\u201d Namfisa says.<\/p>\n<p>Old Mutual Investment Group Namibia remained the country\u2019s largest investment manager, overseeing 16.4% of all assets under management.<\/p>\n<p>Capricorn Asset Management followed closely with a 16.0% market share, while Ninety-One Asset Management Namibia managed 12.1%.<\/p>\n<p>Together, the three firms controlled 44.5% of Namibia\u2019s professionally managed investments.<\/p>\n<p>Investment managers continued to invest most of their clients\u2019 money in listed shares, unit trusts and listed debt instruments, which together accounted for more than 85% of all assets under management.<\/p>\n<p>Listed shares accounted for the largest portion of assets under management at N$102.3 billion, followed by unit trust investments worth N$97.5 billion and listed debt investments valued at N$93.2 billion.<\/p>\n<p>While investments in listed debt and money market instruments declined slightly during the quarter, both remained well above last year\u2019s levels.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Pension savings helped increase assets managed by Namibia\u2019s investment firms to N$342.6 billion during the first quarter of&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":676792,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[14],"tags":[84,4176,4174,4175,56,54,55],"class_list":["post-676791","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-personal-finance","tag-business","tag-finance","tag-personal-finance","tag-personalfinance","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/676791","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=676791"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/676791\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/676792"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=676791"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=676791"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=676791"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
