{"id":676884,"date":"2026-07-06T15:23:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-06T15:23:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/676884\/"},"modified":"2026-07-06T15:23:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T15:23:08","slug":"the-last-man-to-beat-terence-crawford-speaks-out-on-their-rivalry-i-smoked-him","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/676884\/","title":{"rendered":"The last man to beat Terence Crawford speaks out on their rivalry: &#8220;I smoked him&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Terence Crawford may boast an immaculate professional record, but one man claims to have \u201csmoked\u201d the surefire Hall of Famer in the amateurs.<\/p>\n<p>In the professional code, \u2018Bud\u2019 ended his career as a three-division undisputed champion, just a few months removed from his <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/news\/terence-crawford-defines-career-with-remarkable-canelo-alvarez-victory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">astounding triumph over Canelo Alvarez<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But despite his remarkable 42-fight campaign, the American enjoyed comparatively modest success in the unpaid ranks, where he crafted an overall record of 58-12.<\/p>\n<p>Still, Crawford was able to win several national tournaments, while amassing victories over Danny and Mikey Garcia, yet it must be said that the professional code was his preferred domain.<\/p>\n<p>But it was nonetheless considered a resounding achievement when Miguel Gonzalez, an elite amateur himself, <a href=\"https:\/\/talksport.com\/boxing\/3633096\/terence-crawford-angel-silky-smooth-gonzalez\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">defeated \u2018Bud\u2019 by a margin of 32\u201323<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Silky Smooth\u2019 had lost to Crawford by much tighter margins on two previous occasions, both times feeling aggrieved by the result.<\/p>\n<p>This time around, though, the Ohio native took the bull by the horns and denied his rival any further success in the amateurs.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/pYl_EWZDf30?si=VMkajHigb13PGfrT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">FightHype<\/a>, Gonzalez gave his interpretation of what unfolded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first time I fought Bud [in 2006], I came from a two-year layoff and I thought I smoked Bud. [But] they [the judges] gave it to him by two-three points.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe second time I boxed Bud [in 2007], I smoked Bud. [But] they robbed me by one point. I was so angry. They ended up taking a point from me and gave him the decision. I was blowing him out every round.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe third time I fought Bud [2007], it was all-out. [I] smoked his ass for sure. Blew him out the water.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gonzalez also praised Crawford for what he went on to achieve in his career following their encounters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI take my hat off to Bud. Big ups to Crawford.
