Frank Warren has won $100k in a surprise bet with Ryan Garcia after England defeated Mexico at the Azteca.<\/p>\n

Queensberry Promotions kingpin Warren had responded to a tweet from WBC welterweight champion Garcia who declared Mexico would win the World Cup round of 16 clash.<\/p>\n

‘King Ry’ then proposed that the pair put their money where their mouth is, putting $100k on the line, with Warren backing the Three Lions to taste victory.<\/p>\n

And it is the Hall of Fame promoter who came out on top, as Thomas Tuchel’s side delivered the goods on Mexican soil<\/a>.<\/p>\n

England became the first team to win a world cup knockout clash at the feared Azteca, to spark jubilant scenes from fans at home and in the venue.<\/p>\n

Jude Bellingham<\/a> netted a brace in the first half as his red hot form continued, but Mexico came back into the match as Jarrell Quansah was dismissed for a mistimed tackle early in the second half.<\/p>\n

But in one of the most spirited England performances of all-time, Harry Kane<\/a>‘s men dug in and put on a remarkable backs to the wall display of defensive grit.<\/p>\n

England held on with ten men, with Mexico unable to break down the impenetrable wall, and they will next face Norway in a hotly-anticipated quarter final on Saturday night in Miami.<\/p>\n

For Warren, it was a stirring result, and he will donate his $100k winnings to the charities BoxWise foundation and DEBRA UK.<\/p>\n

He wrote on social media: “That was exciting, true Brit grit, like winning a fight with two broken hands in the other guys back yard. Viva England.<\/p>\n

“Great match Ryan Garcia<\/a>, two exciting and excellent teams. Viva Mexico.”<\/p>\n

It will not be the last battle between England and Mexico, but it was a historic night, which saw Mexican boxing legend Canelo Alvarez<\/a> among many sporting royalty in attendance.<\/p>\n

And the sporting warfare between the two countries could continue this year.<\/p>\n

Garcia is set to have a Mexico vs England battle of his own, with Conor Benn<\/a> set to be his next opponent in the boxing ring.<\/p>\n

The pair are finalising an agreement to fight for Garcia’s WBC 147lbs crown on September 12<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For Benn it will likely too be somewhat of an away day, with the event being plotted to take place in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n

And Benn was quick to stir up his own personal rivalry with Garcia, reacting to his lost wager.<\/p>\n
