Dave Grohl<\/a> has revealed the album that he considers to be the \u201cperfect record\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Foo Fighters<\/a> frontman was asked to name which album he considers to be a masterpiece during a recent interview on BBC 6 Radio Music, and named Pixies<\/a>\u2019 1988 debut album \u2018Surfer Rosa\u2019.<\/p>\n

Among the reasons he shared were the intricate yet stripped back lyrics, the sonic engineering from the late producer Steve Albini<\/a>, and the blending of voices throughout the 13-song tracklist.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love that record so much for a lot of reasons. One, that it was produced by the almighty Steve Albini,\u201d Grohl shared. \u201cAnd it was maybe the first album to become popular and showcase his incredible engineering sonic technique.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

He continued, saying that frontman Black Francis<\/a> \u201cwas an amazing lyricist\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis lyrics were just\u2014 they kind of teetered back and forth from abstract intellectual to things that just sounded so absurd and almost like dumb in a way\u2026 His voice and Kim Deal, their two voices together, it was just such a wonderful blend,\u201d he added. \u201cAnd it was unusual at the time. They really did sort of coin this specific dynamic and the simplicity of it was really powerful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Concluding, he said: \u201cThat record I\u2019ve probably listened to 10,000 times and I still love it. I could still listen to it every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Surfer Rosa\u2019 is considered among the best alt-rock albums of all time, and others to praise the album since its release in 1988 have included PJ Harvey<\/a> and The Smashing Pumpkins<\/a>\u2019 frontman Billy Corgan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The debut featured Pixies\u2019 massive hit \u2018Where Is My Mind?\u2019, which famously featured in 1999\u2019s Fight Club starring Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter. The song has also been used in other films including 2011\u2019s Sucker Punch and 2015\u2019s Knock Knock.<\/p>\n

As for Dave Grohl, Foo Fighters are currently on the road for their European \u2018Take Cover\u2019 tour<\/a>, which comes in support of their brand new album \u2018Your Favorite Toy<\/a>\u2018. The dates kicked off with two shows in Liverpool last month, and saw the rockers serenaded by school children ahead of the first gig<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

NME caught their first gig in Liverpool and gave it a glowing four-star review<\/a>, which read: \u201cThat laid-back rock club vibe is what makes this work. Foos don\u2019t have the bells, whistles, pyro, or blockbuster special effects of other standard stadium acts, just tunes and banter.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWho\u2019d have thought that \u2018This Is A Call\u2019, \u2018For All the Cows\u2019 and \u2018Big Me\u2019 \u2013 written for their 1995 debut and for sweaty little rooms \u2013 would land like Queen<\/a> classics on this pitch?\u201d it added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Dave Grohl has revealed the album that he considers to be the \u201cperfect record\u201d.
