Marc Guehi says Jordan Henderson is ‘on the road to recovery’ after suffering a freak injury<\/p>\n

Jordan Henderson left the whole squad \u201cscared\u201d after his freak injury – but is now on the road to recovery.<\/p>\n

Henderson suffered a badly broken wrist after climbing back over advertising boards to celebrate with the travelling fans following England\u2019s win in Mexico<\/a>. The veteran midfielder will undergo surgery and will now miss the rest of the World Cup which is heartbreaking for the 36-year-old because it could be his last major tournament.<\/p>\n

But Henderson is keen to stay with the rest of the squad to offer his support and has been in regular touch with his England teammates.<\/p>\n

Henderson was carried out of the stadium on a stretcher, needed oxygen and was rushed to hospital in Mexico City for treatment while the rest of the squad flew back to Kansas City after their famous win.<\/p>\n

England defender Guehi said it was a horrible moment but stressed he is getting better after the initial scare.<\/p>\n

Guehi told the FA\u2019s Lions\u2019 Den show: \u201cHendo’s good, man. Hendo’s in a better place than he was yesterday, and it was obviously scary for him and his family and for everyone else, but we’re just glad that he’s on the road to speedy recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n

Henderson earned his 90th cap for England when he came off the bench against Panama<\/a> in the Group stage \u2014 his only appearance – but that created history because he is the only men\u2019s player to appear in four World Cups.<\/p>\n

He is a huge presence and figure in the dressing room so it is a significant blow for the squad even if he has not played many minutes. However, Henderson\u2019s hope is that he can be back with the group to provide his support and backing.<\/p>\n

Guehi has also stressed the importance now for the players to recover after Mexico and boss Thomas Tuchel has given them two days off – other than recovery sessions – with family and friends invited into the camp in Kansas City.<\/p>\n

Guehi added: \u201cI’ve spoken about it quite a bit. The most important thing is to disconnect from every single thing possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome lads like to play golf<\/a>, some lads like to go into the city if they’ve got time and explore. That part is really important to make sure that when you come back, you are super focused.\u201d<\/p>\n
