\n\tThe fourth movie in the stoner comedy franchise \u201cHarold & Kumar,\u201d starring John Cho and Kal Penn, is on track with the key players from the series on board, one of the producers, Greg Shapiro<\/a>, said Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring a panel discussion on producing at Karlovy Vary Film Festival<\/a>, Shapiro said, \u201cI made a series of movies called \u2018Harold & Kumar.\u2019 The first one was \u2018Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle,\u2019 and we made three, but we\u2019re actually doing the fourth one pretty soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAsked by Variety to expand on this, he said, \u201cWe\u2019re working on the screenplay right now for the next \u2018Harold & Kumar\u2019 movie, but everybody\u2019s back, the actors, the writers \u2026 the writers are directing, and hopefully we should be shooting it soon, you know, they\u2019re just \u2026 it\u2019s like any movie, it all has to come together in the right way.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLast year, Variety reported<\/a> that the original \u201cHarold & Kumar\u201d writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg were set to direct a new installment in the series, and they would write the screenplay with Josh Heald. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe Hollywood Reporter, which broke the news<\/a> of \u201cHarold & Kumar 4,\u201d said Hurwitz, Schlossberg and Heald would produce via their Counterbalance Entertainment banner, alongside Shapiro, who produced the original movies. Mandate Pictures, which also produced the original trio, would produce the film, with Nathan Kahane also serving as producer. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe original adventure, 2004\u2019s \u201cHarold & Kumar Go to White Castle,\u201d follows two pals whose pot-fueled munchies trip to the fast-food burger joint takes a zany turn. The comedy became a hit and spawned two sequels, 2008\u2019s \u201cHarold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay\u201d and 2011\u2019s \u201cA Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring the Karlovy Vary discussion, Shapiro noted that the second \u201cHarold & Kumar\u201d movie was made right before \u201cThe Hurt Locker,\u201d which he also produced, and went on to win six Oscars.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cEveryone sort of was scratching their heads, saying, \u2018How can you make \u2018Harold & Kumar,\u2019 which has a lot of like really low-brow fart jokes in it, it\u2019s a stoner comedy, and \u2018The Hurt Locker,\u2019 which is a really high-minded, very intense war film, and I never really wanted to answer like this, but in my mind I was always thinking: They\u2019re kind of the same movie to me. My experience of it was, I love low-brow stoner comedies, and I also love really high-brow war films, so to me it was just working on something that I loved.
