Norwegian golfer Viktor Hovland is ready to rub salt into the wounds if his nation beat England at the World Cup.<\/p>\n

The Ryder Cup<\/a> star is competing in the Scottish Open<\/a> on a weekend which also sees Norway take on the Three Lions in a World Cup quarter-final<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hovland has already given his country more than one reason to celebrate in recent weeks by taking down Scottie Scheffler<\/a> at the Travelers Championship. <\/p>\n

The 28-year-old benefited from a heavy Norwegian presence at the event in New England, which coincided with the group stage of the World Cup.<\/p>\n

He was seen performing the now-famous ‘Viking Row’ with supporters when his victory was confirmed. <\/p>\n

Alongside superstar striker Erling Haaland<\/a>, the Norwegian fans have made themselves a popular feature of the World Cup in North America.<\/p>\n

Given the rivalry between Scotland<\/a> and England, Hovland might find himself surrounded by Norway<\/a> supporters once again at the Renaissance Club. <\/p>\n

If Haaland and co. do pull off another spectacular victory, Hovland will be the first to let everyone know on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet’s do it on Sunday,\u201d he said. \u201cThat would be great. First tee, we’re doing the rowing.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked if there will be extra banter with his English rivals this week, Hovland added: “Yeah, we’ll see. I feel like it’s a very sensitive subject for them, so it might cut a little too deep there if I push too hard.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut yeah, I hope they lose and come crying out on Sunday morning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Norway progressed to the quarter-final by pulling off a stunning upset against Brazil<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Haaland scored twice as the European nation, competing at their first World Cup this century, ran out 2-1 winners. <\/p>\n

England have been a mixed bag, delivering two exceptional performances<\/a> against Croatia and Mexico, but struggling against Ghana, Panama and DR Congo. <\/p>\n

The Three Lions will nevertheless be heavy favourites against Norway – and defeat would represent failure in most eyes.<\/p>\n

Norway, on the other hand, are already in bonus territory, according to Hovland.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m no expert analyst when it comes to football,” the golfer continued. <\/p>\n

“But it does feel like even though this is a massive accomplishment for Norwegian football and just Norwegian sports in general, in a sense, we have already won. All of this is just a cherry on top.<\/p>\n
