\n Hemsby Lifeboat, which hosts the annual Lifeboat Day and Herring Festival on the beach, has called off both events for 2026.\n<\/p>\n

\n In recent years, organisers have also added extras like foam parties and barbecues to help boost donations for the independent inshore rescue service.\n<\/p>\n
\n However, due to fears over the impact of coastal erosion and a lack of space, the events will not take place this year.\n<\/p>\n
\n Hemsby’s beach has undergone significant changes in recent years, as the sea reshapes the coast.\n<\/p>\n
\n Large sections of the dunes have been stripped away, forcing the closure of parts of the beach and putting homes, roads and tourism businesses at risk.\n<\/p>\n

\n Since the 1970s, Hemsby is estimated to have lost hundreds of metres of coastline, with erosion intensifying in recent years during storms and high tides.\n<\/p>\n
\n A spokesman for the charity said: “Unfortunately, due to the coastal erosion, we have deemed that it is not safe to host either event with the little amount of space we have remaining.\n<\/p>\n

\n “We know that this will come as a real disappointment to many who have enjoyed the regular summer events that the lifeboat hosts.\n<\/p>\n
\n “This decision was not taken lightly.\n<\/p>\n
\n “The trustees, crew, and volunteers are working hard on the relocation of the service, which has to be the main priority this year so that we can continue to save lives of those who need our help.”\n<\/p>\n
