Welsh boxer Joe Cordina allegedly assaulted a man outside a petrol station in Cardiff<\/a>, a court has heard. The 34-year-old is charged with assault by beating and threatening a person with an offensive weapon.<\/p>\n The incident is alleged to have happened outside Pentwyn service station at Pentwyn Road on February 27, 2026. A second defendant, Jamie O\u2019Brien, 32, from Pentwyn, has also been charged with assault.<\/p>\n A hearing at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, which neither Cordina or O’Brien were required to attend, heard that the offences they are accused of are alleged to have been caused “against each other”.<\/p>\n The hearing was adjourned by District Judge Charlotte Murphy, with both defendants due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates\u2019 Court on July 28.<\/p>\n Cordina, of Pontprennau, was represented by Nadeem Majid. The prosecution was represented by Jeanine Robinson. He is due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates\u2019 Court on July 7.<\/p>\n \u201cJamie O\u2019Brien, 32, from Pentwyn, has been charged with assault and is due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates\u2019 Court on July 28.\u201d<\/p>\n The former super-featherweight world champion was forced to pull out of an upcoming WBO lightweight title fight with Abdullah Mason in Cleveland on Saturday, July 4, after being denied a visa to enter the US.<\/p>\n “Just to let everyone know that I’m not going to fight,” Cordina said on Instagram.<\/a> “It’s not injuries, I’ve seen a lot of [reports] saying injuries, but there’s no injuries.<\/p>\n “I’ve had a great camp. I was meant to fly over this week. A couple of days back I went to the US Embassy in London and they basically denied me a visa.<\/p>\n “I tried to explain certain things and I had all the paperwork to back it up and they [sic] wasn’t having it. They basically told me, ‘you ain’t [sic] getting in’.<\/p>\n “It’s out of my hands and I’m absolutely gutted to become a three-time, two-weight world champion, plus fight for a world title in America was a goal of mine.
