The UK is in the middle of yet another heatwave<\/a> and with news of a three-month summer sizzler<\/a> right around the corner, it’s important to look after our health<\/a>. Staying hydrated and keeping cool is advised as temperatures hit 34C in parts of the UK on Thursday.<\/p>\n For Brits who take medication, it’s crucial to be mindful of where they’re stored and the effectiveness during the heat. Pharmacist Raj Patel, who has over 35 years of experience in the industry, listed the 10 medications you must be wary of in the hot weather<\/a> as he urged everyone to “plan ahead”.<\/p>\n In a TikTok<\/a> video, the pharmacist issued the urgent alert and listed the 10 medicines which include Furosemide, Ramipril, Losartan, Amlodipine, Bisoprolol, Oxybutynin, Amitripyline, Sertraline, Empagliflozin and Insulin.<\/p>\n He said in the caption: “If you take regular medicines, a heatwave can affect you more than you realise. This is not panic. This is not a reason to stop your tablets. This is a reason to plan ahead.<\/p>\n “Some medicines can make heat more risky by affecting fluid balance, sweating, blood pressure<\/a>, heart rate, kidneys, blood sugar or how your body cools itself.”<\/p>\n Content cannot be displayed without consentHere are 10 medicines to be more heat-aware with:1. Furosemide<\/p>\n This is a water tablet. It helps remove extra fluid, but in hot weather it can increase dehydration risk. The NHS<\/a> also advises to drink more water when taking this medicine, and to speak to your pharmacist if you’re unsure during the heatwave.<\/p>\n 2. Ramipril<\/p>\n The ACE inhibitor is used for blood pressure and heart protection. Dehydration can make dizziness, low blood pressure or kidney strain more likely.<\/p>\n 3. Losartan<\/p>\n This is an ARB used for blood pressure and heart or kidney protection. Heat, sweating and dehydration can increase light-heartedness or kidney stress.<\/p>\n 4. Amlodipine<\/p>\n The calcium channel blocker could cause ankle swelling, flushing, dizziness or headaches<\/a> which may feel worse in the heat.<\/p>\n 5. Bisoprolol<\/p>\n This is a beta blocker which slows the heart rate, affecting how your body responds to heat and exercise.<\/p>\n 6. Oxybutynin<\/p>\n This is used for bladder symptoms and could reduce sweating, making it harder for your body to cool down.<\/p>\n 7. Amitriptyline<\/p>\n
